There's BM beyond the popular stuff on Sputnk, y'know.

I'm well aware of that, yes. Deathspell and BAN were the only black metal I listened to back in the day. This year has been my dive into the genre, really.

i think atmospheric stuff generally gets decent reception on sputnik. the ones that arent popular on sputnik tend to be the lo-fi stuff (eg LLN, BBH)
|

there are like a million bm bands, only about 10 are popular on sputnik.

I'm in the same boat as salesman, really digging cascadian bm right now. i'm gonna have this record in a couple weeks, love when it drops to just the drums in the second track.
|
| |
i mean they're no deafheaven but the atmospheric stuff gets decent amount of ratings too around 50~100 looking at BAN coldworld walknut
...and then you look at a band like branikald...

I wouldn't say that, I actually think the lo-fi stuff has gotten more popular on here. With the people REALLY into BM anyway, so especially among people like Wylie, Vesper, Angel, even Hawks ect. I believe also some of the thrashers are into that stuff, sure - maybe not the traditional stuff like LLN or the Norwegian stuff like Zyklon-B and similar but stuff like Bone Awl, Arizmenda and Paysage D'hiver.
|
| |
i suppose - i guess i should've said 'traditional' instead.
though i really do wonder with bands like paysage and bone awl whether people actually do listen to it from start to finish and give it a 4 because they really do enjoy it, or because they want to establish some sort of self-satisfying cred
|
| |
I don't know but I'd reckon both varying with the people. I don't think anyone that isn't really into BM would go there, but they mostly stay with stuff like this anyway. I'm personally not the biggest fan of this "lo-fi revival ("cult")" thing going on. I mean some of the stuff is nice but I'd rather stay with the "traditional" stuff or things like Darkspace, old Nocte Obducta or certain Lunar Aurora albums.

Speaking of Lunar Aurora, their split with Paysage d'Hiver is amazing.

Yeah agreed.

"Yeah a lotta people don't know this bit I agree Lunar aurora has some really good older stuff"
You should check out their new album, it's actually quite similar to the older stuff like Elixir of Sorrow/Ars Moriendi. But I also enjoyed the latest album before they initially split up tbh.

Affirmed.
I like this a lot because of a combination of the vocals and instrumentation; the vox seem, to me, uncommonly wailing and grim, and the overall riffs and production give a really rushed, brutal, cutting feeling. If there's anything similar to this that's non-Cascadian-y, recs would be appreciated.
