I think Mess is overrated

the best parts of the all their albums are the guitars and cleans

For the longest time this album was just wishful thinking for a lot of early fans, going "damn I wish Craig would come back and make something great" and then Mess even came back too.



There's nothing wrong with Mess (I love him personally), but honestly the fact that these dudes dropped Kurt for Craig is really sad. Craig is undeniably brilliant as a vocalist, but it's so dumb to bring this fuck-up back into the band when they were growing as a unit with Kurt doing his thing. Happiness ruled, and whatever they did next with him probably would've been great too. This is probably their weakest full-length yet, and even if it did manage to top one of their previous ones without craig it doesn't overcome the fact that he's a fucking drug addicted douche-bag.



Now they have to try to regain their momentum with Tillian, and I really like Tillian so hopefully they can re-gain their momentum but it's just so stupid of them to have thrown away their successful lineup because they thought Craig would be stable. I do love that Mess seems to be back in the band for good though. But shit, if they can release something solid with Tillian, maybe they should just stick with him and keep a consistent lineup instead of trying to awkwardly mix and match members they think will fit in best like they have in the past.

you think they brought craig back because they thought he would be stable? ahahahah no. mess swan and mingus know craig very well. theyre not that stupid. they brought him back because thats what the fans were clamouring for, and they knew that another downtown battle mountain would create a hell of a lot more hype than another album featuring kurt (im fucking terrible) travis. they essentially went into it knowing that it would be one and done. swan and mess never looked at kurt travis as a true or essential member of the group so it was easy to throw him under the bus so to speak. especially with however many sideprojects that tool has going on

MEB: When did you first become aware of the alleged scamming? Has anything like this happened in the past to your knowledge?



Mess: The only thing I have really reflected on is how exciting it is to know someone who now has 20+ memes. I’ve always loved a well done meme, and the combination of actually knowing the person is just satirical gold. Honestly, a comedic gem I will forever cherish.



MEB: Have you spoken to Jonny since the accusations? If so, did he speak of them?



Mess: Jonny and I talk through Skype with the sound turned off. We have both been learning sign language recently and “mac book” is a sign neither of us know.
