i think it says a lot about your character that you get personally insulted when someone doesn't like a band you like. it also says a lot about your character that you are willing to insult someone that you know literally nothing about. i've been on the internet a while. i guess i expect more out of someone who has posted 38,587 times on one website alone and has managed to never be banned despite being full of hatred. but you gotta get your kicks somewhere, right? i made the wrong choice by even acknowledging you this time. i won't continue to do so.

Negative discourse with actual substantives is one thing; coming into a band’s thread and hyperbolically calling them one of the “worst bands ever” with no additional context or rationale and expecting not to be met with some form of retaliation is sorta silly and naive and very much a mindset of early-aughts internet users tbh.

I think, a reach for understanding, before a baseless insult. Perhaps? But, realistically, I wasn't looking to ignite any kind of reaction, simply giving my opinion of the band. I don't feel the need to substantiate every band I dislike, nor do I feel the need to substantiate every band I do like. Respectfully, I don't owe that to anyone. If it was asked of me to expand, I probably would have. Sometimes I will pop into a thread and make renegade claims such as "best band ever." and proceed to not explain why. I typically don't get insulted when I do that (though of course, Sputnik being Sputnik, sometimes people do get upset that I like certain bands, for whatever reason - but it's usually just that guy following me around). If I had to explain every single thing I like and dislike I would be making 40,000 posts on this website, and that's just not an outcome that is possible in my life. I'd rather spend that time doing other things. I understand what you're saying, but you're automatically assuming I'm a troll intent on insulting a band or people - people can simply not like bands. I think you will find throughout my discourses on this website that I am typically respectful of other users, despite the number of times I've been disrespected over the years.

I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you’re intelligent enough to understand and realize the difference between popping into a band thread and saying “best band ever” vs “worst band ever” and why one of those would actively invite recoil while the other would not.

Actually, I do not see a difference in gravity of saying “best band ever” or “worst band ever,” nor do I think there is anything that qualifies you to a position to make claims on my intellect. Best and worst are opposite terms - any meaning you assign to the statements is separate from their actual meaning.

Now you’re just being deliberately obtuse. Walk into the middle of a crowd at a Swans concert and shout “Swans is the best band ever!” then wait a few minutes and shout “Swans is the worst band ever!” and see what kinds of reactions you get and if you honestly believe that they would be the same then I don’t even need permission to comment on your intellect, you’ll have said plenty.
