I don't care if he doesn't like Trivium but the fact IS that he doesn't like them. I don't think you get it when i say people that don't like a band are gonna be biased. All i'm trying to say is if you're indifferent its easier to find things you like and dislike because if you love it or hate it then your gonna weigh it on one side or the other.

Obviously, but all the good reviewers on this site know how to balance it and not make it a complete flaming of the album or a complete blowjob of the album.

Alright, i understand what your saying, and I'm going to repeat what i;ve been saying for the last time before people get annoyed with me.
This reviewer is one of the best on the board, and he might not like trivium, but he is objective and he dislikes trivium for the reasons he stated in the review rather than a preconcieved idea. Yes, its more difficult to review a band you feel strongly about in a balnced way, but all this means is you need to learn to be objective. Look at some of this guys other work besides trivium and you'll see he is.
Leave it. Trust me.

It's depressing how everyone on earth thinks everyone else is even dumber than them.
Listen up kid, because I'm only going to say this once. You have no clue what you're rambling on about. The majority of the reviewers on this site are intelligent, educated people capable of suspending their bias enough to give us all a thorough and fair review of an album. We listen to these things the whole way through multiple times and consider what we believe to be the most important points are that need to be made.
However, that is not to say that reviews are free of bias. A review by nature is opinion-based. This is a fact that you have thus far failed completely to understand. Having an opinion is not a bad thing if you are prepared to back up your reasoning.
That is exactly what we do here, and if you are incapable of accepting that fact, then get off the internet to protect your virgin mind.

I'm pretty sure i have a clue what i'm "rambling about" buddy. So far none of you have really thought about what i said. You just all keep repeating what the last person said because you think you're god's gift to music. Have someone who likes Trivium but doesn't love or hate them do a review because then they can say, "well i liked this and i didn't like that". When all of you "I Hate Trivium" guys review this you just say all the negatives because you just love bashing them which is fairly obvious if you read any of the comments on any of the cd's by them.

Or maybe, in their eyes, the music is overly awful through a slightly objective looking glass, and most of the reviews I've read pretty much back up that opinion with solid points, I've never heard any Trivium but if I ever am going to pick this up I sure as hell will voice mine based on what I think of it.

I listened to the entirety of Ascendency. I wanted to give this a fair shot. I hated it. I hated the whole damn album. I saw the potential to improve under it all, but the album itself was garbage. I have just as much right to say that as you do to sloppily felate them.
The difference between you and me is that I am an experienced writer. I can state my opinions eloquently and clearly. That is what a review is about. Sure, I can use empirical data to state a review, but in the end people are reading it to hear what my take on the album is. I do my best to give an adequate explanation for my opinions, and I certainly don't have to apologize for any of it.

Pretty much not making fun, but criticising them for what they believe to be faults and flaws in the music, which a reviewer has every right to do.
And I'm posting not because I like/love/hate/dislike Trivium, but because the discussion is about the essence of reviews, which I do happen to know things about.

Being a reviewer isn't about giving everything a 3 just so you can appear objective.
Reviews all boil down to opinions. And opinions are only as good as the arguments used to support them. That's what matters. There are plenty of people on this site who have rated Metallica albums 5, and while I don't believe any album Metallica has produced deserves that sort of rating, I do not give shit to any reviewer who can eloquently and maturely explain their rationale to me.
