I think they get recognition cause it was pretty easy to get into their music, that's why they were such a commercial success

They were really a supergroup more than anything else. Three elite prog musicians who wanted to do their own thing.

I love this record, but not a whole lot of other Tull I'm afraid

This is the only Tull record I have 4.5'd... just never been a huge fan of these guys in the prog realm although I still enjoy them

What other Tull albums have you heard?

Besides this album and A Passion Play, Tull's sound really isn't anything like that of other prog bands, they've never really been prog in the same sense as bands like Yes and King Crimson. I think that's probably one of the reasons that a lot of prog fans have difficulty getting into their music as much as the other big prog bands.

And that's exactly why you gotta listen to Los Jaivas

lol, Los Jaivas can't compare to Tull, even if they do have some similarities in sound, Tull are leagues ahead. And from what I've heard from Los Jaivas they do have that distinctly prog sound in a lot of their music, unlike Tull.

The most forgotten of the British Prog Big 5.

I dunno whether that's true bit if it is it's probably partly because they weren't really prog in the same sense as the other big prog bands and quite a lot of their material (even during their classic era) isn't really prog rock at all, at least not in the way that albums by the likes of Yes and KC were. Ian Anderson is basically a (folk) singer songwriter who writes music that's progressive in nature, which kinda makes Tull stick out from other prog bands and I think that has something to with why they're not always grouped together with the other big name classic prog bands.

Any thoughts on Andersons new solo effort JT?

It's good but it's got nothing on classic Tull. It's still more interesting than what a lot of old classic prog artists are releasing these days though.
