I'm not that ignorant zak. I knew that. I'm just one of those people that weren't "amazed."

"I know your not dude. I was talking about akbar"
When have i ever said that Nirvana wasn't worthy of the praise/huge fanbase they have? Give me a break Zak, I never said that the band sucks, I gave In Utero a 4.0.

@ballsdeep i know at that time, i could see it because they were almost singlehandedly responsible for changing the music scene

Because for the first time we had 'our' band who completley blew away the bullshit. It wasn't macho, it wasn't hair or screech or riffs or stadium or constructed or formulated.
It was real and fuck me it was exciting.
|
| |
And I agree with that, I just don't see where you got that I somehow didn't(?) conceptually Nirvana is amazing I just don't think they do it for me as much as most people

"not sure how anyone could be utterly blown away by nirvana at any point in history to be perfectly honest."
that's a pretty big statement to make my man ahah.

It doesn't make any sense. Like this band is the gateway artist for like 90% of teenagers since their conception

haha guys sometimes I just say things for the sake of being contentious or more often jokingly, although this doesn't translate as well online as it does irl. I can understand being blown away by nirvana, I used to froth over them when I was young and this was a good 10 years after Nevermind hit the scene. Hell I wasn't even conceived when that album was release, don't think my parents had crossed paths either.
They've just never produces anything over a 4 for me (In Utero) , and I feel their influence is overstated too.

they aren't the greatest band of all time but i think zak is right on the mark with what he's said about em
|
| |
Don't step back BallsDeep, I completely agree with you as an actual teenager, Nirvana is overstated and while their reach can't be denied, I don't understand how most teenagers can be blown away by them nowadays.
I know what they stood for was amazing, but honestly their music isn't up to standard with their message.
|
| |
What is this message you guys are talking about?
|
| |
Well, I don't know if it's really a message but what Zak was hyping up :
"Because for the first time we had 'our' band who completley blew away the bullshit. It wasn't macho, it wasn't hair or screech or riffs or stadium or constructed or formulated.
It was real and fuck me it was exciting."

I'm telling ya dudes there hasn't been anything like it since.
In terms of a swathe of hype and a coming together of a multitude of people maybe Oasis in the mid nineties in Britain was a 'bigger' thing on a national scale but that was a media hype machine.
Nirvana are a reason a mid thirties nerd enjoys a music website.

I guess Nirvana are considered one of the first bands that so many teenagers could universally relate to, although I didn't experience the phenomena first hand, they did seem to have that effect on me and a lot of other kids I knew (possibly because their songs are among the first you learn when you start playing guitar lol).
I've read articles suggesting how they influenced 90's rap and all kinds of crap.
Like ALA said, influence aside, their music just doesn't resonate with me anymore.
I Wish I was born in the early 80's
