In My Life is one of the greatest things ever committed to record, Norwegian Wood resonates 50yrs down the line. Essential stuff.

The Beatles may not have had the most technical talent, but their end results, thanks to the magic of George Martin’s production, Lennon’s lyrics, Paul’s catchy melodies etc... make them the best of the British Invasion bands
Their ability to make poppy yet bizarre psych experiments like Tomorrow Never Knows Knows and Love You To as early as 1966, a year before anyone was really doing that alone is pretty crazy (Zappa was sort of doing it, but in a very different way that was less accessible.) Even Pet Sounds, while it has the beginnings of psychedelic rock, wasn’t even half as psychedelic as either of those Beatles songs.
Until The Rolling Stones or The Who make something like I Am the Walrus, Blue Jay Way, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite etc., I think I’ll pretty much always prefer The Beatles. The closest the Stones ever got was “2000 Light Years from Home” which was of course, was from their Beatles parody album.
The Stones are cool, but I get such a different feel from their music, as they’re more likely to succeed in less produced genres (regular rock, blues, country, folk) while the magic of The Beatles is mostly studio magic, orchestration, psychedelia, and harmonies.
Also The Zombies (mostly their 2nd album) is a fantastic British Invasion band as well that I’d say is a little closer to The Beatles in terms of sound.
Do I think the Beatles are the best band ever? No, but their importance on influencing music is hard for me to deny and despite their popularity, they were incredibly unique (up until people imitated them.)

But I agree! And calling this overrated is weird to me, but hey, everybody's entitled to their opinion...

"If I Needed Someone" and "Norwegian Wood" are the gems on this for me.
|

They're overrated.
Also the best of the British invasion bands is obviously and by far The Who. They were better at everything that any of the other bands.

I don't like The Who at all :
Beatles > Zombies > Kinks > Stones > Who
They're probably the most talented with technicality, but their songs never grab me
