it's not that they lightened up wit ToG, it's just they layered much less the music and condensed them to play more songs live.

It's not meant as in insult or anything, but it's hard to make the argument that ToG is as heavy as this. And the layers do have a lot to do with how heavy the finished product comes across, so by using less, I don't think that it's a stretch to say that their sound "lightened" somewhat.
