'if you're impressed by this surely you'll be impressed by anything with the same tropes [2]'
except i'm not, and I've heard way way too much of the stuff with these tropes, so statement doesn't hold much water
'i mean since we're going there, having a small number of very focal climaxes (which these most defs are and are v emphatically built up as such) holding together a similarly small number of songs is another big post-rock 101'
eh i guess, but even then, most post rock doesn't take the time to focus on melody and atmosphere like this, they hit you with big loud waaaaas after crescendoing up to it and then back down to noodling around.
I think there's a reason so many people think this record is a classic, and it's because it's very GYBE!-ish in the way that the climaxes are simply not the focus, they are an important part sure, but the sparseness and melodic ideas serve to give it a pretty unique atmosphere and extra level of skill that 99% of post rock bands aren't up to replicating

>I think there's a reason so many people think this record is a classic
herd mentality, lack of exposure to better things etc
>and it's because it's very GYBE!-ish

This is easily one of the best crescendo/peak/valley post-rock albums ever.
It is gybish

maybe gy!be have a different draw for me compared to other people that they really dont feel similar at all to this

what would you consider 'better' in the same sort of genre then? Curious
'It is a bit gybish'
yeah obviously it is, you're going to struggle to justify that it isn't

it's p gy!be in the sum of its parts, but has a very different tone. more like explosions in the sky if they made music for kitsch romantics instead of for people who like lots of clouds in their sunsets

GYBE! is just as melodramatic in its own way, i still love it but damn do they want it to mean so much. I don't see that as a huge criticism

yeah for sure, wouldn't be the same without the Epic (no issue with that here in and of itself either, just not sold on the execution)

this definitely follows the post rock tropes cloeely but it does them very well and personally i really like how unashamed it is in its affection and melodrama

I yearn for a world where GY!BE isn’t brought up in every post-rock thread. A man can dream.
