I finally listened to this and it was... fine?
What did I miss? Am I just too familiar with (and already underwhelmed by) most of what Why? does?

I need answers, defenders to strike down. This was pretty lame.

the approach they used was revolutionary. it’s hip hop but tbh kinda more significantly it’s industrial / ambient / concrete and many of the themes and techniques here are a first, in this context anyway. idk if this a good album in a visceral sense or not tho, and I rarely recommend it

You just have to appreciate it for what it is. A zany albeit beautifully composed ancestor to cloud rap

Dont think this is reallg anything like most why? material tbh

"today is the day"
good band
|
| |
Agreed, Today is the Day is a great band, particularly the early shit. But yeah, THIS album is phenomenal, so happy to see it getting love!!!

Willpower goat album agreed
|
| |
agreed their early stuff is best but i snagged a vinyl copy of Animal Mother in the used bin for like $5 a few years back, good times
|
| |
Yeah, they completely snap on Willpower and Sadness Will Prevail, have 'em both 5'd. Both so oppressively dark. Crazy songwriting. Just everything from 2002 back is some of the best heavy music anyone will ever hear.
