I used to not see the big deal with this album until I listened to it on a good sound system and headphones and uh holy fuck it's like ASMR

Making a list of every band influenced by MBV is a pointless task for anyone who knows the vaguest thing about shoegaze. Ctrl+F my bloody valentine in the bloglist I made if you want to take a couple of baby steps, maybe learn the difference between entry level dream pop and gaze if not

the climax of Sept is 100% shoegaze to anyone with functioning ears

yh actually now that i think about it, shoegaze's flagship aesthetic-normalising tshirt fuelling icon is actually a weird anomaly that has absolutely nothing to do with any of the other four vaguely gaze-adjacent records i've heard good job thompson thank you thomson

Part of the reason nothing quite sounds like this despite trying to is the very fact that the level of production and detail on this thing was like literally impossible for most of their contemporaries unless they also wanted to bankrupt their labels. Disregarding the fact that it’s a line as old as this album to compare other shoegaze to Loveless, but some albums that more directly tried to replicate certain aspects of this sound include:

Lilys - In the Presence of Nothing

Ecstasy of Saint Theresa - Susurrate

Drop Nineteens - Delaware (on a handful of songs)

Lovesliescrushing - bloweyelashwish (takes clear inspiration from the outros on that and “To Here Knows When”)

Also anyone who tried to emulate Shield's guitar didn't know how he achieved his sound. e.g Corgan

I will say that if anything more bands successfully replicated the Isn’t Anything sound than this one (probably because of the production factor I mentioned).
