I'm a Gore stan all the way lmao, but I could point out at least 4 or 5 songs from Ohms that could easily top Rubicon and Gore. I reacted the same way with Koi No Yokan back in 2012 than I did with Ohms and I still love Koi as much as I loved it back in the day, so I can't really see a fault to that process lol

Almost any song on the new record is easily better than Rosemary so that's all I can say.

And yes of course you can't imagine any of these going into your top 10 when it's been an evening of listening to this album. You've heard the other songs many times before. I know this applies to those who hype the record as well, but I don't claim any of these songs crack the top 10 for now or that Ohms is their masterpiece because I am trying to be patient in spite of the hype.

However if there's one thing that's always certain of Deftones for me, is that their songs only grow on you better with time and the potential here is tremendous. Either way we'll know where we stand a few weeks from now. Don't try to compare it too much right now and just enjoy what you've been given.

Rosemary (great song) is almost embarrassingly better than either of the singles, so imma put a big fat optimistic b e t on that and see how it goes

I think it depends on what people look for in a Deftones song. For me, I love the dichotomy between batshit insane and lush, gorgeous, high-as-the-ceiling choruses. But then there's that in-between content that isn't quite committal to either extreme, kind of lackadaisical, never going all in on the intensity or the hooks (stuff like Romantic Dreams, Hearts/Wires, Street Carp, etc). I think a lot of Ohms falls into that category, but it's still noticeably better than the songs I mentioned.

True Valk, time is the surest test. I've played it 5 times through so far, and my opinions seem pretty cemented for now. Or at least, normally I play a Deftones album 3 or 4 times at release and my opinions don't shift a whole lot, but my appreciation for what I do love deepens.

It's been said before, but the singles are not a great indicator of this album's quality. Genesis is my least favorite song and Ohms while I enjoy it very much can't hold a candle to some of the stuff in-between. Once everyone listens to the record, they'll understand why the choice for these 2 songs to be the singles is certainly... interesting.

I hate to say it, but Ohms (song) actually contains one of the most memorable choruses on the album, which is a bit of a bummer. But the production and certain melodies/moments make up for that. Genesis isn't especially strong but I will say it is far stronger than Urantia. I think the best thing about Genesis is the opening minute tho (lol) where it kind of harks back to SNW Deftones.

The chorus of Genesis is just so, so, sooooooooo fucking weak. I actually think the verses are really solid though.

Ohms has a good chorus, but beyond that we basically agree on nothing, it's all cool tho ;D

I think the new album will blow me away considering I think both Ohms and Genesis are strong 4/5s

Yeah I did consider checking the leak, but I'm gonna exercise some will power and wait till Friday. WFH at the moment and Friday looks like a quiet day so I'll be able to give it a few good listens. Just hope my neighbours like Deftones because it's gonna be loud.
