"swimming pools (drank)" is also produced by t-minus who I feel is by far the lesser of the at-least-three (boi-1da, 40) drake producers in the early 2010s, whose beats for drake also sound sort of dated now

Bro, Drake's old shit has NOT aged well. Also, do we remember all the terrible fucking "AYE"s of the 2000's??

" "backseat freestyle" is great. hot hit-boy beat, and the rap fits well within the context of the album...that may be an "excuse" for bad rapping but for me it's an excuse that works because it's funny and clicks with the narrative machinery of the album... I suppose it comes down to whether you listen to it in context of the album or at parties"
Context for that track is the only reason I was able to slap a 5 on this. Its a fun time when spinning the album. Just never really want to here it outside of that

Backstreet Freestyle rips on and off the album.

yeah if someone throws on "backseat freestyle" I won't be upset

I wouldn't be upset, but it's also it's kind of impossible to separate it from the context of the record for me too.

MARTIN HAD A DREAM

It’s like taking a freestyle from his younger years, and giving it the professional production treatment. Like an homage to his childhood. Which also fits the theme of the album perfectly.
It’s the only song on the album that feels like K.Dot rapping, and not Kendrick rapping about his K.Dot years.

I mean doesn't he even explicitly signal it to be young him rapping (in the "backseat"!!) at the end of "bitch don't kill my vibe" through some dialogue or a bar or something? it works!

I mean, I wouldnt be upset if someone put it on lol still a decent track. Just would rather hear any other song off this first, is all
And yes he does, thats why it works for me when spinning the album

wait has this album always actually closed with "compton"? that's what wikipedia says but I could have sworn it was listed as a bonus track or something...

I still jam Over now and then, can't say anything about the rest of that era lol
Only drake for me is pretty much Take Care - IYRTITL and honestly its been a long time since I heard all of Take Care and IYRT so

I honestly have no idea what the official track listing for this is. For the longest time I thought “County Building Blues” was track #4, because the album rip I had placed it there. Contextually works there, too.

@romulus honestly I didn't look back for context so I could be speaking out of turn
NWTS was what originally got me into him

Drake gets so utterly outclassed by Kendrick in Poetic Justice, which is easily my favorite Kendrick track in general.
Also my first introduction to Drake, who I thought was corny af since day 1. At least he used to be able to flow well over a beat.
