Absolutely magnificent. The only slight criticism is the lyrics are a tad shite but that’s just picking holes when the music on this thing is mesmerising as fuck.

No one neglect the bonus tracks, especially Pyre. One of their best.

I don't neglect their bonus tracks since the day they threw Derelict Herds in them

“noctus no like :[ the song structures just seem non-sensical in the fact they don't hold their own or build to anything so the album just seems disjointed, which would be okay if this album had its moments, but it just doesn't. it's just a bunch of boring moments from opeth's past all glued together. their worst yet.”
9th worst opinion ever expressed on sput.

Impossible not to dig this monster.
I spose if you’re a massive fan of the early stuff it might be too much of a change in direction but even then there still suggestions that they were heading this way.
Album is an essential listen.

Have you heard Pale Communion, Zak? That one is dreadfully underrated too. Perhaps not as strong as this but one that still deserves some love.

I’ll give it a go mate. I listened to a bit of it when it first came out and wasn’t too overly impressed with it. Given that I thought exactly the same as this album a few years ago and it is now an all time fave I’ll definitely invest some time into the more recent releases.

Cool! I feel like this is miles and miles ahead of their most recent two though. They don't feature any of the jazzy/adventurous vibes and weird/quirky songwriting ideas that make this record so incredibly addicting and rewarding.

Have you tried listening to this in alphabetical order yet Trifo? (lol)

Haha! Oh no! I forgot. On it now.
That Lines-Marrow-Nepenthe-Slither combo looks especially horrid.

Slither is such a nonsensical closer, but now I see why... because it isn't. I haven't gotten around to spinning this in the correct order yet, looking forward to seeing if it changes my perspective of the album as a whole.

Yeah! Curious too. There's still some weird moments, but I think it actually works really well. Even with the out-of-place-ness of Slither and Lines on the actual album. They stand out a lot, but do offer moments of relatively straightforward energy amidst all the weirdness.
