Chino is still firing on all cylinders, love it.

I have to get up early tomorrow, but I'm still staying up to see the video.

I wanted to temper my expectations for this album after how stoked I was for Gore, only to be gut-punched by medicority.

But the two new singles... fuuuuuuck. No way I can contain the hype now.

What's so special about the bridge? There's nothing especially melodious or hard-hitting about it, it's just a decent transition back into the chorus.

I'm a sucker for ethereal-Deftones.

While it may not be an inventive bridge, or even nothing we haven't heard from them before, it just works for me. Love the melody, the mood, and the way it seamlessly shifts to the catchiness of the chorus.

If it doesn't work for you, I get it, man. I'm not one of those people that takes contrary opinions personal or anything. Just sucks you don't enjoy it to the extent that I am.

"'Ohms' sounded like a mixture of SNW and 'Swerve City' for me. I seem to be one of the few that really loves the latter from KNY."

I'm with you. I love Swerve City. Now THAT is a bridge to remember.

I love the intro to Genesis and it's a good song honestly. The production is absolutely killer, I just kind of wish it had more of that moody atmosphere from the start and a more memorable hook to cling to.

Yeah I am always surprised whenever I hear other Deftones fans consider it one of their worst album openers. The fact I've actually read that on here genuinely baffles me.

The music video for it is silly, but god damn is it a good song.

People say the hook for Swerve City blows too and I just do not understand that. It isn't their absolute best chorus but it's punchy and fun, and like I said that bridge is pure ethereal bliss. Always get shivers hearing it through a good pair of cans.

You know what's funny is, that's exactly how I felt about '(L)MIRL' from Gore.

The opening of that song was so 'Digital Bath', and then the way it transitions into this slow, boring, unmemorable clog of a song, it was super frustrating.

With 'Genesis', for me at least, at least that intro leads to a song with some good production and excellent pacing. Not to mention a heavy influence from Carpenter, which just really lacked the last album.

Swerve City is great and the hook is brilliant, agreed.

There's a lack of hooks in the new singles so I can understand your frustration. For me, it's nice to hear Deftones playing with their dynamics again, the production on Gore was so bland it ruined quite a few songs for me.

Agreed. It's probably why I like the singles so much.

Granted, I'm admittedly easy to please. But along with the poor production from Gore, the album just sounded so uninspired from a band that has always been anything but that.

Again, not to sound like a broken record, but if nothing else, it's just awesome to hear these guys firing on all cylinders again. Even if this doesn't reach the heights of WP, DE, or even KNY for me, I can tell it was at least an album made from legitimate inspiration.

I think I'll enjoy genesis and Ohms more in the context of the album. I have to admit I already have warmed up considerably to the latter since first playing it. I just hope for that melodious, atmospheric side of them is present in other spots on the album. Also hoping for an absolutely batshit insane song (like Royal, Gore, Rapture, etc).

"You know what's funny is, that's exactly how I felt about '(L)MIRL' from Gore."

Haha I agree 100% with this. Every time I spin that album I trick myself into thinking (L)MIRL is going to blow me away and it never does.

Dude, the first time I hear that intro when spinning that album, I honestly thought that even if the first half of Gore underwhelmed, I was about to hear yet another seminal song from Deftones; Then about 45-seconds into the song after the intro, I just remember mentally checking out and not even remember what I was listening to.

It was extremely frustrating. It's like the intro didn't match the tempo and style of the song at all.

Talk about blue balls.

Based on the singles I can tell the new album is gonna eclipse Gore comfortably. Great album but not quite up to the lofty Deftones standard.

I don't think they've outdone Gore's best songs yet -- those being the title track and Rubicon -- but based on the production and overall uniformity in sound with these two tracks, I think it's safe to assume Ohms is going to be a far more consistent and focused album. Based on these singles, it seems like it'll be on par with Diamond Eyes insofar as it being aesthetically unified. DE isn't my favourite 'tones, but it is the one I think is most atmospherically/musically consistent from front to back.

Rubicon is up there with their best tracks, not gonna argue that.

There's something very dark and reminiscent of old-school Deftones (like White Pony/SNW days) about the intro to Genesis and I absolutely love it. I hope the album continues in this fashion.

Chino goes pretty ham on Genesis tbh, encouraging to hear him pushing himself vocally for the first time in a while.

He looks pretty thin in the Ohms video, but I wasn't sure if that was part of the CGI.
