"the ones on “No Control” are probably the worst in that regard."
however, if it had launched into the awesome rock song that it seems to tease, it would have been the best

Might be joining Boney in 4'ing this soon - I really dig the darker and chiller vibe this has as compared to most of their work, and several songs I already thought were highlights have grown on me even more recently

Yes most of the songs had to grow on me. Took maybe 3 listens until I was like holy shit this album is amazing.

Def a grower. Took a couple of days for me actually. I was one of the folks who wanted lots of screaming and more songs like You Won't Know.

I knew we were in for a treat and soon as the tape started on the first track. What an exciting day that was.

listened to a podcast the other day that went into depth about this album, and they brought up an interesting interpretation of the album cover, which im not sure has been mentioned in this thread or not. admittedly its not an original photo picked by the band (they said an artist was going to use it in 2011 or something), but the guys take on the album cover was the front plate on the first car says sos 666 if you zoom in, which some say is short hand for "deliver us from evil", or "save our souls, satan"
now the two girls jumping, the girl in red has a predator stance in her jump, so she is the "bad demon", while the girl in blue is landing in a super hero stance like you would see wonder woman do in a movie or comic, so she is "the angel", which kinda fits that angel on one shoulder, demon on the other scene you often see in a lot of visual media. Anyway, the sos 666 licence plate, or deliver us from evil fits that interpretation pretty good i think with the image that the angel and demon are fleeing their inhabitants room on the second floor for whatever reason. "like the devil and god are no longer raging inside me", so to speak, ie the end for the band or their statement started with that album at least.
hope that makes sense. i thought it was really interesting.

I've always gotten the "impending doom" vibe from the cover, seeing that the two girls will soon be splattered on the ground.

Never heard that theory but it makes sense and I love it

i totally buy it personally, barring the fact that the art is not original to the band's choice given that another band used it. Still, i bet they definitely chose it with care. the sos 666 on the car's plate definitely means something.

For an album this dense, you have to bet they thought long and hard about what picture will represent the album as a whole
