Relistening to this lately I've realized I kind of just... hate all of this. Heir and Omega are cool but tbh I might bump this down to like a 3.0. This is a step down in every regard with the only exception being Per's involvement.

This is better than Ghost Reveries but it sure doesn't live up to their classic material

"hate all of this"

"I might bump this down to like a 3.0"

I feel like something's not adding up here

Unless you're saying you hate it by Opeth standards, I guess

If I hated all of this, this would've been a 1

Either way, this is still top 5 Opeth for me, albeit at the end at #5. Still Life and MAYH still reign supreme for me

Porcelain Heart and Hessian Peel just feel like bloated monstrosities to me now and I barely enjoy any part of them. They go on for way too long and are so self-indulgent, I was wowed by them when they came out but they just put me to sleep now. I never liked Burden either, it didn't feel like Opeth, and Coil is a little too precious for me. Lotus Eater is awesome but that silly bridge part has just worn out its welcome after 80+ plays. So out of 7 tracks, only about 2.5 make the grade compared to what came before.

IMO after revisiting this album for the first time in 2 years

I agree on Porcelain Heart but not on the rest

Also, the bonus tracks on this fucking rule

The only one on here I don't really like is Burden. Still an okay song, but the outro goes on for way too long and does too little to justify its runtime. Also for whatever reason, people lap up the keyboard solo like it's something absolutely incredible; it's... ok, I guess?

Hessian Peel was really spicy at first and it felt like the centrepiece of the whole album, but it just irritates me now as much as Porcelain Heart for the same reasons.

Aren't the bonus tracks just covers?

The Burden outro is the only part I really dig. Sounds like the guitar is melting, it's kinda cool. I would like Burden more overall if it had been a solo project Mikael track not an Opeth one

We've already had Storm Corrosion

That didn't go as planned
