The drumming and riffing on this is pretty insane

I mean all of the instrumentation is spot on

For me this feels like a good place to start

It felt a bit scary and overwhelming at first but after that initial "shock" and what first felt like total utter chaos began to feel perfectly put together once my brain started to digest it all

Mind you, I'm not big on doom either, but for different reasons. I just don't know much of it, but at least I can find willingness to get into it.

Meanwhile, death metal... Let's just say I've gone through about 3 weeks almost exclusively on dm in April. I kept digesting Meshuggah, Gojira, Cryptopsy, Death, Allegaeon, Nuclear Death, Cryptic and Behemoth, and you know what I discovered?

Meshuggah is too tremendous to warrant frequent listens, Gojira is like Meshuggah but worse, NSV put me to sleep on the first listen and left no marks in my memory on the next several, Nuclear Death just fucking sucks, Cryptic is like Death but much worse and I'm not touching Contra nor Demigod again. Symbolic and The Ossuary Lens are pretty rad but it doesn't really make up for all the other hours of tiresome material.

It's like all the albums in the genre are designed against me. They don't even share that many problems, each fucks up in an entirely different way for me.

Most death metal and doom metal to me is boring, even a good chunk of black metal is too.

But there's select stuff that I come back to all the time for death and black metal (very rarely any doom)

I like some doom metal because I like depressing music sometimes. but not a genre i would really get into, as it kind of takes a special band for me to really stick with

but i will say sleep token makes simply exquisite brutal death metal this side of heaven, i understand why no mortal should be allowed to know their identities. the br00tality is so mysterious

@Hawks okay, my bad. Still, I can't digest any of those (which is confusing as fuck since y'all nearly worshiping this type of shit).

Correct me if I'm wrong tho, early Gojira is pretty much dm and obZen sounds rather adjacent.
