An ambitious place to start, but if it works you are set for life.

I think if you're familiar with or coming from a heavy / extreme or whatever background, then this might actually be one of the ultimate starting points for DM
cannot currently articulate why I believe that, except (in part owing to) my own experience, because I'd heard some of the core greats before any DM. This wasn't my first but it was a good early choice!

I definitely agree with that Demon.

I agree but also disagree to an extent. Lord Worm's vocals are by far some of the hardest to just immediately love I'd argue. I find some other dm groups far more accessible

Melodic death metal is probably the most accessible death metal. My own entry point was Children of Bodom.

That's why I added the caveat of having previous extreme metal (yet non-DM) experience, otherwise there are easily more accessible DM starting points (and this wouldn't be the *most* accessible either way, just that I can see the transition working for some folk)

My entry point was death-doom and I still despise the actual death. Even the albums I like, I return to very rarely because of how exhausting this type of music is to me. Death's Symbolic is propably the most accessible instance of dm I've come across.

Despise is a very big word, but you like it slow, I get it.

I find doom pretty exhausting, in a I'm gonna need a nap in a minute (for real tho the bleakness can be exhausting in itself). There's some nicely balanced death / doom out there mind
yeah, Death are the benchmark band for getting into DM to be fair, most of their stuff works for different reasons but Symbolic certainly does (*insert tech thrash argument here*)

Yeah, doom metal for me is like 95% boring, 5% awesome

I think doom is cool in small doses. Like just thrown in here and there in a record. Very few doom albums manage to keep my interest for an entire record unless they're throwing in at least some mid tempo sections

If you like doom and want to feel out some more DM at the same time then Bolt Thrower's IVth Crusade seems like a good place to go
Or Hooded Menace

Hooded Menace is one of the best modern dm bands yeah.

Death doom in particular is just a complete snoozer. I need the bpms in my DM.
