I probably said this elsewhere in the thread, but Leper Affinity is my favorite Opeth song of all time. Perfect song from beginning to end

It has everything.
The 5000 god tier riffs help too, haha.

I dunno mate.
Typical of music post 2000 nothing holds any weight outside of Internet forums.
A millstone for Opeth? Their debut laying down the groundwork for extending the possibilities of where metal good go.
Still Life for bringing it all together.
Heritage for being a complete divergence and the dogs bollocks.
This for musicianship possibly but I’m useless at all that techy stuff.

Purely in terms of how well the album sold as well, this one put them on the map.
This is definitely seen as a landmark album in the realms of progressive metal, I guarantee that.

I’d say this is definitely a milestone. It’s not my absolute favorite by the band, but the amount of influence it holds on newer bands in both death metal and prog metal is crazy

It was no big thing in 2001 I can assure ya. Metal wise it was System of a Down, Lamb of God, Deftones and what have you.

Well yeah, Toxicity is definitely up there too. But I think I’m referring more to underground/extreme metal more than anything

Not bad for the 8th best Opeth album or whatever it is these days.

The ‘mainstream‘ metal I was initially exposed to was generally complete ass, probably why I bypassed it completely for a decade before circling back around via extreme metal, lol.
I did like Toxicity mind, although it was a fun ‘novelty’ that eventually grew off me. The game-changing band for me were Mastodon, and that was after reading a review of Blood Mountain from an indie publication of all places.

This is definitely my most listened to Opeth. I absolutely love it.

Deliverance is my favourite nowadays.

Same. Metal, especially the old school death metal stuff fills a gaping hole for me that needed to be filled since the early 2000s funnily enough.
Prior to then I found all metal absolute fucking shit. Total dross that meant nothing. Now I can’t live without it. Massively appreciate the vast majority of it.
