the video where dj dahi makes the beat to "money trees" is highly highly recommended. the best part is the cowbell which is sort of subterranean in the mix in the actual song but once it hits while he's making the beat ohhhhhhhhhh boy

Yo I know I’ve said this before but how about that change in tone/mood when the choir jumps in and Kendrick starts rapping “but what am I supposed to do...” There’s something so stirring about the sense of urgency that sets in or something. Well. Great album his best not a 5 (some of the singles to me haven’t aged all too well, and “real” is sort of a weird closer) but also feels better than a 4.5

Real makes a lot of sense as a closer lyrically, but the hook leaves a bit to be desired. I quite like listening to it with Compton as a closer for a bit of celebratory bombastic catharsis

Real is like a 3/5 song. Still probably my least favorite on the album, maybe even including all the B-sides. But something about the production/beat is very pleasant.

Am I the only one that thinks To Pimp a Butterfly is hugely overrated, especially in comparison to this album?

I don't think TPAB is overrated but saying this is better is definitely a respectable take I don't think too many people would argue with

they are both overrated but i don't have strong feelings about which is better

this probably has stronger singles and tpab is stronger conceptually

honestly TPAB fell short of its ambition, it's greater than the sum of it's parts but i'd rather casually listen to this, untitled, and section.80 than have to sit through a good chunk of those parts on most days and thats where it falls short

I can agree. I feel like if you put all Kendrick's albums in a playlist and put it on shuffle, I would hit skip on TPAB songs more than any other album.

tpab needs more songs like blacker the berry to be a good casual listen
