the difference between Harvest (v tight piece of songwriting and somehow underrated despite/precisely because of being the most accessible song here) and Benighted (snoozy fusion noodle ballad easy skip) is tbqh very representative of that rare zaru-100%-emoji post
"But some of these songs could be trimmed easily"
this is no less true here than it is of literally every other Opeth dm record lol

I mean kind of. But MAYH does a pretty good job of keeping things trim. Other records are better at it, even Ghost Reveries. But you have a point.

Harvest is classic but Benighted also fucking rules. That was such a moment back in the day. Don't sully it Johnny!

agreed Hawks, this is on a similar level to Orchid and Watershed for me. It's a bit too polished which I attribute to Steven Wilson's production. Morningrise, Ghost Reveries, Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse are all better DM records personally

I love this album, but I also agree that those 4 are their best

I mean songs on here play around with chorus-like repetitions a lot more than they ever did previously too, definitely a reason some people didn't like the more streamlined direction they took after Still Life. I can understand the anxiety toward it warning of an inevitable selling out eventually, thankfully they just streamlined their writing and made it catchier instead of strictly more accessible.

I love this album very much. A few days ago though I put this album on and could only listen to three tracks, before I had enough of this sad and depressing mood.

It sucks, but I feel like this music for me in small chunks only now.

Gonna jam some Gojira instead lol.

Love you Opeth

I don't know if anything on this is underrated. I mean, look at that average!

A great song indeed!

"Underrated" means "I want to talk about this thing".

"Overrated" means "I want everyone to stop talking about this thing".

Dirge for November is probably underrated relative to the rest of the album
