"Shaboozey makes better and more interesting music." i mean a bar song is catchy but we're talking about another flash-in-the-pan country/stomp and holler sensation vs a band trying to bridge the gap between pop fans and metal fans, in maybe a surface level way but there's more going on in some of these tracks than in any Shaboozey song I've heard. hardly the pinnacle or like "best band ever" but i feel this undercuts their biggest triumph, which is exposing pop fans to heavier elements in a way that feels built to.

sleep token is the definition of a flash in the pan and without industry backing would be nobodies

Tiktok i think did a lot of heavy lifting for the band as well tbh

Ill stick to leprous for weird proggy art rock with occasional metal bits

then i'd hope there'd be some other hybrid band in their place getting this attention. i'd love to see a world where like, Devin Townsend is a mainstream hot act that even my IRLs listen to, but that's just not happening.

Venin ily but this band isn't bridging any gaps.

If all my impressions from what people have said about the new one, they doubled down on poppy stuff

they did and i honestly kinda am bummed that there's not at least 1 Summoning-style song on it, but hey. my opinion is barely relevant, i still wanna root for acts like this to succeed to break the stigma against heavy music some people still have

I think they are probs just going to go mainstream or a BMTH route, its the best financial choice for them. If it was about the art though i would have imagined they would have gotten weirder instead of double down on pop

Bridging the gap between checkerboard vans and boat shoes isn’t really that big of a bridge

"If it was about the art though i would have imagined they would have gotten weirder instead of double down on pop" yeah I think that's probably why I'm bummed out, i wanted this band to go bolder, go weirder, but i wonder if RCA made them go this route

"flash-in-the-pan country/stomp and holler sensation"

Idk if you know this but OG stomp & holler, while influenced by bluegrass and traditional country a la Mumford & Sons, had NO crossover with Nashville mainstream country. Like none at all. Entirely disparate scenes.

Mainstream 2010s country would much rather embrace trap and hip hop braggadocio than this shmoozey, college town, IPA-swigging indie shite. Shaboozey and, I suppose Beyonce and a few 2020 country artists, are quite cutting-edge, in that regard!

Meanwhile, Evanescence and Linkin Park have been making crossover metal and pop 25 years ago. This is just some modern incarnation of that continual occurrence.

you do raise a solid point there actually, but I defs think Cowboy Carter was a better rendition than the stuff I heard from Shaboozey at least

I'm more surprised it took them long enough to do this. In any case, it's just *alright* music, at most. Makes for a fun, unobtrusive, natural combination; and good for them to find that niche!

yeah i think i may have been too hard on shaboozey lol benson boone however barely has any teeth to his music so ST is comfortably ahead of him for me

@veninblazer Feels like a new cycle in their discography starts with the new album. Maybe that's the first part of a new trilogy and their next offering will be bolder. Time will tell.

I much prefer their approach in the new album, they seem to have striked a nice balance between their styles and it sounds much more cohesive.

I feel like they were still figuring out their sound on TMBTE, but it's still much better than the hodge podge of the first two albums. Even in Arcadia hit the nail on the head for me, painfully misunderstood album.

I dig the new album, it's cohesive but too poppy and toothless for my taste.

TMBTE imo remains their magnum opus.

gave like two or three songs off the new album listen to see if its as bad as people are making it out to be. not my thing like at all, but def not the worst thing I've heard all year. the pop stuff is just average and the glossy djent metalcore parts sound really boring and tacked on to check a box. when ol dude starts rapping I gotta tap out though lmao
