Whatever genre(s) you put this in, I probably don't like much in general. This however? This is my shit. When I played chess regularly I put this on all the time with my good headphones. Their debut as well.

‘Trip hop’

If there was ever a reason to fuck genre tags off it’s that nonsense

nah, there's far more obvious examples where that's concerned - trip hop makes sense as a descriptor and has the rare benefit of not actually needing much explanation (as it kinda sounds like what it is). It's very much necessary and well-established by this point.

Taking into account it was Massive Attack, Tricky (who was part of Massive Attack) and Portishead you are talking about less than 15 people from Bristol who made music that had a label attached to it by the media.

All your other nonsense such as rock, punk, metal, dance, grunge comes from an entire ‘scene’ that has formed and incorporates fashion, ‘style’ and tribalism which anchors the music formed from it to act as its calling.

Tags are meaningless bollocks.

"you are talking about less than 15 people from Bristol who made music that had a label attached to it by the media."

all genre terms are made up and they all have origins that are by-and-large on a very small scale to begin with - yep, it started off centred around a specific geographical location. Again, that's nothing unusual or remarkable.

when anyone says 'trip hop' (even when discussing other bands who were less known, or took these influences and reside elsewhere) the connection can be made

I'm struggling to see what the issue is here

I think it's more efficient to use tags than listing artists this crap might sound similar to when ur tryna describe this to someone
