So my feeling about this one. I feel like a lot has been said already, but I am coming in having skipped 23 years of hindsight. I’ve heard lots of negativity about it. Heard that they sold out with this one. Derisive comparisons to the nu metal of the time. Is it really true there were some fans that felt alienated by this one?

Tbh it sounds like a bunch of hogwash. It’s extremely similar in feel to Still Life. And it rules haha. Of course there is lots of good things to say and I think many of it has already been said. I suppose the negative commenta stand out from the rest.

Yeah I agree. It's extremely similar in feel and quality to "Still Life". Personally I prefer "Still Life", maybe due to the concept. These are the two my favourite albums of Opeth.

it's Still Life but much more linear and less technical, which I guess people could've been really mad at at the time. Too bad the songwriting was also better or else they might've had a point hue hue

I definitely prefer Still Life, but this is in my top 5 as well

I guess I can kinda see your pointon streamlining Zar, but not by much lol

I mean, what is Bleak if not technical? I guess you could say that about Harvest, but Still Life has Benighted, so what’s the deal? I guess there really isn’t any tbh!

This album got me into death metal and will always hold a special place in my heart. But some of these songs could be trimmed easily. I rarely come back to this anymore

Same Art. Album still rules but its nowhere close to their peak.
