i think i'm disappointed by how safe they played it this time around. i felt this one was more endearing in its messiness

So more of the same, but somehow even more boring?
Can't wait!

it's like if this had less of the lows (DYWTYLM, Are You Really Okay) but also less of the highs (summoning, vore)

ngl i just want this band to put it all together because it is not every day you get a genre bending band that does more than 1 thing getting this much attention. I have close IRL friends super into this. As much as I'd wish a band like Rolo Tomassi was in this spot they just aren't, as far as mainstream success. A lot of the music that gets popular around regular people isn't this ambitious on paper. obviously the execution is what matters, but i'm rooting for any mainstream act willing to take us into a post-genre era
welp, new Miley Cyrus will probably destroy this tbh

i am slowly starting to agree/understand a lot of the main criticisms - i don't love that this band only seems to play with the most surface level interpretations of the genres they're playing with, but if this means a semi-ambitious band gets shared by my irl friends instead of fucking Shaboozey, I'll take what I can get

the irony of you shitting on shaboozey while slurping this tripe

Shaboozey's an artist that's comfortable in his own lane, and that's not a bad thing. But it's a very clearly definable lane, and my ideal world is one where artists have complete creative freedom to bend their art to whatever limit they see fit without people being like "no, stifle your own creativity and make the last album a second time!" So on paper I'd prefer albums like TMBTE or Life Is But a Dream to succeed, to show that it does actually sell to go outside your comfort zone and try something wacky - hey maybe it'd get Metallica to do something beyond rehashes of old material again.
Even if some experimental artists don't appeal to me, the world is better with them in it.

Life is But a Dream to me was an entertaining mashup of stuff from Cynic to Faith No More to Daft Punk but this is just a snoozefest at best and downright cringe at worst

I mean fair enough. this 4.0 is hanging on by a thread based on the strength of some tracks I really like (mainly the singles and ascensionism)

"It's actually insane, almost feels like they're getting paid for it"
what do you mean by "almost" lol... I doubt the rock sound 'reviewer' has even heard the album, it was probably just put to print directly by the label
