Porcelain Heart and Harvest were the two songs I first heard from Opeth, and thought ''Oh, that's a mellow band''. Then I listened to Bleak and I freaked out by the vocals. Wild times. I remember really disliking this album, I couldn't understand why people liked Opeth. I found it boring, except of PH and Burden.

"Oh, that's a mellow band''

lol kinda similar story to me, my first Opeth album was Heritage, and I remember being really confused listening to it after reading that they were a Progressive Death Metal band haha

I first saw a copy of Morningrise in a cd store and almost bought it because of the song lengths. I was a teen who was intrigued by that a lot at the time.

Hahaha yeah! Same! I didn't buy it because of that very reason, didn't have a lot to spend and sometimes -surprise and shock!- a good cover doesn't mean good music! Still regret not buying it then, would have been on board a lot longer. Now I hopped on with GR. Because YouTube recommendations actually worked back then.

This was one of the first Opeth album's I really tried with after deciding that I wanted to get more into metal. I remember it feeling so mystical and impenetrable and magical back then.

It goes down way easier now, but a lot of the magic is still there

Putting Derelict Herds in the bonus tracks is a bit of a middle finger to the death metal fans tbh

"Join the club, sabru, that's three people on the last two pages who prefer watershed over gr"

Oh I'm definitely in that club already. The fast middle part of Heir Apparent satisfies my growl-Opeth itch more than anything on GR (which I dig too btw)
