Machine Head is not a better band than BTBAM...Burn My Eyes is probably the only MH record worth listening to...

Probably the most boring band I've ever seen live was Opeth. My god were they monotonous. Saw them with BTBAM, who totally upstaged their performance because BTBAM are pretty much awesome live. Wish I coulda' seen them back in the day when they played this stuff more often. I think it translates better to a live performance than the geek metal they are now. Like the second set on their Colors DVD that's comprised of older songs is so much better than the Colors set.

Correct me if I'm wrong but at first listen I found this album too progressive. Honestly, they fail to find a good balance between interesting progressions and structure. I rarely hear the same awesome riff twice in a song. At times after the song ended I felt unrewarded, with no sense of "I just heard an awesome fucking song," but more like "these guys just played a shitload of different riffs with no structure anywhere and tried to combine every thing into one incoherent song."
It definitely takes time to fully grasp the power behind each song in this form of music making, but It's obvious BTBAM just skips things and forgets to visit themes and riffs that could make their songs more rewarding to listen to. In an album I had a ton of fun getting into, Fables of the Sleepless Empire, nothing was ever boring like what plagues BTBAM too often. The music is just as technical with a relatively strong progressive influence, but Unexpect manages to connect the music and make it really rewarding.
I find the death core bottom string verses that fill most of the songs in The Silent Circus quite boring and unmusical. I know It's just an acquired taste, but to me it sounds nasty and especially overused throughout the album, like a filler just to get the tracks moving.
There are quite a few fucking amazing parts and riffs that if better combined in more structured songs would easily make this album a 4.5 or 5 for me. After more full listens I might acquire a taste for It's strange direction and get to that high rating. I'll wait to judge officially till that time.

Wait, what exactly makes BTBAM boring live, per-say? I've seen both of their 'live DVDs' and both
exhibited pretty outstanding stage presence, and keen accuracy.
Edit: Just saw Ire's comment, haha.

I've seen them live. They are boring, if you're expecting audience interaction and stand-up comedy. Whatever you value in your live bands.
But being in a crowd with 300 other people who fucking loved BTBAM listening to them play Colors was worth it.

I personally hold BTBAM as one of my favorite live acts. I mean, the interaction isn't the most phenomenal, but it's not like it's as bad as the Faceless' old vocalist. Their accuracy and presence is enough for me. But then again, it's like was said earlier; I like their music, so, yeah. Haha.

They're really fucking good live, I don't get it why people are always saying they're boring live.

Pretty much. I've seen 'em three times and they always put on a great show.

I missed a chance to see them. Though, the billing wasn't the greatest. Blessthefall, Underoath, The Acaia Strain. Ehh. I still regret it though, haha.

How could you honestly rate this as a 2?
Also, I don't like their new stuff, and I thought they were mad when I saw them play Colors all the way through live.
I was biased AGAINST seeing that, and came out extremely impressed.

To some they are boring live because they are boring half the time on the album

When discussing the aptitude of a bands live performance, shouldn't the main/only criteria be their performance itself, not the material they play?

@TrantaLocked: Yeah, but your opinion is pretty much valueless.
