When are we getting an actual review for this album
|

Rubbishly titled 7th album from a band that does their thing in a way that not many others do.
A tidy cacophony that is less of a mush than their previous efforts and shows a bit more expressiveness and expansion while retaining its pummelling individuality.
A lot of people will find it to be shite but if you like it you’ll like it.

rubbishly titled lmao
the people going apeshit over the apparent "overly cringelord edginess" of this basic ass death metal album title are more cringe than the album title itself
|
| |
Nothing basic or cringy about it lol it’s referencing the death of morals

Love all the people tooting that we're haters when really, it's a realization these guys mastered their sound early on into their career.
When are we getting an actual review for this album
This is the review we need. Finally someone who knows how to critically and honestly dissect techy dm for what it is.

Wizard I usually agree with you but I'm a firm subscriber to the ideal of 'honing one's craft'. We all love to be dazzled by this or that, sure, but there's something to be said about deepening one's appreciation of refinement and a slow evolution towards a craft. I'm sure the first Samurai sword dazzled a lot of folks. After some time, the only people left to dazzle were the ones who appreciated the minutae of the craftsmanship that deepend over time beyond the innovation itself.
It's like wine. You're either the kind of person who loves a certain bottle or region and notices the differences of vintage year to year, or you're the person who just grabs whatever screwtop is on sale and hope it impresses your friends because the label is quirky.
Smh people are addicted to the notion that things need to be outright innovative to be timeless so deeply that they fail to see the possibility in being deeply moved by the power of refined craftsmanship.
Oh god I sound like a Tool fan someone shoot me
But still, reviews that treat music this way always feel like a piss take to me.

what if you just drink red wine out the cask?

idk i think the review is a little too traditionally structured and needed more time to bake as it was rushed out the day this released but i fail to see anything wrong with it or out there.
one man's refined craftsmanship is another man's boring lack of memorability or staying power. i think he made that argument well. he does appreciate the technical aspects of the album but just finds it too samey. there isn't anything wrong with that unless you just disagree with the opinion. idk why people are so defensive over this kinda stuff. i like discussing different points of view as long as they are grounded in facts.

Couple more listens. This is sitting somewhere in the middle of their catalog for me.
Took me forever to get into these guys and I think because Stare was the album that made them click, it'll always be my fave from them.

I agree Stare is their best as well and I say that as someone who's been following them since they released Destroyers. I've fallen in love with all of their albums over and over again, but something about Stare just really sticks.. so I'm with you on that. This one yeah.. somewhere in the middle of the catalog, but still miles above what most people are able to do with music. Call that boring refinement if you will, but I mean come on who else is doing shit this well in the world of dissotech.
Whatever, they'll never be People's Champ-era Paul Wall and I can accept it.

Criticising a tried and true formula is fair, doing so with Meshuggah and Immolation among your favourite bands, well...
