I really think Death Magnetic is a little underrated these days. Compared to this and Hardwired it's a little heavier and the songwriting is a little more progressive. There are some pretty cool transitions on that album.

Growing hard!
It's more consistent than Hardwired, mainly because of the 2nd half having a dramatic drop in quality (Hardwired) (see Alex's revised tracklist for it).
Death Magnetic is pretty great after the test of time. I'm assuming that this will end up neck in neck with it for me, as a whole. The production on it is too loud though, especially on that snare and percussion.

Of the three most recent releases, Death Magnetic is my least favorite. There's a few songs I really like, but the rest feels bland to me. Hardwired is my second favorite because there is a lot of dead space on that album. This is my favorite because, even though the highs might not be as high, all the songs are at least consistently good.

some moments like the t/t and the melodic riff in room of mirrors have shades of classic tallica which is pleasantly surprising
