yeah wow reckoning is amazing, perfect use of a feature. rare to hear spencer on a good song these days! that and the cleansing are really inspired songs, two of their best. sags a bit in the middle on first listen but another rock solid album. i'd prob put it a little above phantom anthem for their latter era. pumped for the new one now!

I've gotten so sick of their happy guitar solo's after lyrics and passages that are completely different in tonality. Wish they'd cut that crap. Make a happy song, a sad song, an angry song, or something that convincingly goes through the different emotions...

first four (intro not withstanding) here is really some of their best stuff.

oh come on haha. the cleansing has sick black metal influences and great progressive structure, ancestry is super catchy with a great leach feature and tightrope is a blast with richardson's hyper melody infused

As one of my favorite bands, I actually agree with this, but I've never heard anyone else actually say it. I've said it in another thread but to this day Cutting the Ties is the worst offender for me. The song is phenomenal, the ending breakdown is filthy, and then they add that stupid happy guitar lead at the end as an outro. I hate it so much hahaha

True but it's not happy music for angry people. So get those happy solos out of here!

they've always been very positive and uplifting. idk if i can picture them doing dark atmospheric stuff lol.

Messengers and even Thrill Seeker had tons of darkness musically. And Constellations had stuff like White Washed which checks my eerie box. I'm cool with uplifting lyrics and dark music for sure.
I've always wondered what they could do if they went after a full album of Meridian style post metal. But at this point I'd also settle for more black metal haha

I don't care if the music is happy or angry tbh, I really like Identity for instance; there the happy stuff fits. But I hate it when they make an angry track and then have a random happy solo and you just hear Jake having to go out of his way to find lyrics that fit to the upcoming happy section. Just pick a side, or make the song longer to make the journey to the happy section feel more natural...

@Futures agree that Ancestry is great, but those four tracks are by no way their best material.

As a drummer it's annoying 😆
His kit sounds pristine and he's so flawless it's unnerving
It actually made me happy that twice I saw them they messed up lmao
