Even that's a stretch imho, they have pretty good melodic tendencies even if their early stuff is a bit too goofy and cheeky.
I imagine the way i feel about bands like AA and Falling in reverse are similar to how Pikazilla feels about Periphery. Neither of us are wrong, but we're probably both being unfair in our ratings. Which is why I wouldn't write a review if I felt that strongly in regards to a band because I couldn't be impartial in my assessment.

But your perspective in a review is valuable to people with similar opinions to yours. If you hate Periphery and suddenly a review of yours comes out with a 3.5, fellow Periphery haters will know that the album is actually worth their time. Where as a Periphery fans 3.5 review means nothing to those people.

This is all assuming you're actually giving a nuanced take, and not just spending 6 paragraphs bashing the album with no actual analysis of why it doesn't work for you.

I actually quite agree with this.

I definitely get the FIR hate, Ronnie isn't the easiest person to like and lately every track they've put out seems to sound the same as the last with the same message as before (something about cancel culture something about voices in his head something that sounds like Tom MacDonald but scene), Asking Alexandria tho I've always sort of liked.

This sentence is beyond generous.

Ronnie's life has gone downhill ever since he made "Life Is Like A Video Game"

"Bands like Meshuggah, Shezzers, TDEP, and Protest The Hero could be heard in their songs."
idek what shezzers is... but i don't hear any protest or any dillinger besides like 10 seconds of one song
if there's any band whose influence has sorta seeped its way into at least this album, its polyphia. i'm sure they came to it independently through various pre amps and a half dozen pedals... but those light overdrive tones on wax wings / dying star / thanks nobou may as well have been the tim henson axefx preset

Dillinger and Meshuggah could be heard in Wildfire with the chugging and the random ass jazz section and the ending breakdown

Tbh this album feels way more natural and emotion-evoking than any polyphia i've ever heard, Henson's got a cool tone but holy hell his writing is wank

which is why I would feel it to be redundant to review this

i could see the dillinger comparison if the the jazz section (more like elevator music in this case) was like 1/8 the length and randomly placed 30 seconds into the song and actually performed by the band in some capacity

"if you didn't feel any emotion in Renaissance, especially Nightmare, I feel VERY sorry for you" maybe that's got it but these last two albums are rough. New Levels New Devils was okay but the last one was really mundane.

If someone wants to write for something, regardless of motivation/intent, they can. Periphery are one of the most visible djent bands (if not THE most), so they tend to be pretty topical and relevant to anything orbiting prog. metal/djent/etc. As Johnny points out, there are *some* ways in which djent-sounds are being integrated into novel avenues, making it all the more perplexing that a scene leader is playing things nauseatingly safe.
By the same token, you are more than welcome to give Ulcerate a review. Nobody's raining on your parade unless you let them.
