I was hoping Soil II would actually be a continuation of Soil... but it was almost like adding one or two extra lines to the final phrase of Soil. Idk, still cool but just not was I was expecting or hoping for.
Album slaps though regardless.

can’t be arsed with quoting but yes okay I compared them (but only because you did Johnny) - and only did as a misguided / irrelevant put-down because they happen to both be ‘core’ in some way
but yes, bravo
Hopefully someone enjoyed the festivities

Getting solid 4 vibes after 5-6 listens. I don’t really get the hype for this if I’m being completely honest, we’ve heard variations of this exact sound over their last 4 albums minus Brendan’s cleans

It's feeling like a 4-4.5 for me right now. It doesn't top the best of their discog, but it's a still a super solid Counterparts offering.

The more I listen the more I think the singles are some of my favorite tracks, which is... kind of a bummer? The first 5 tracks are a REALLY strong run and then the back half of this is way more wobbly for me. Nothing is flat-out bad but several of those back half songs feel like they could be swapped out for some of their better B-sides and this would be a much stronger record.

This is exactly how I feel. I love it but it’s probably my least favorite of their last 5 album run

Since 2010 this band has been called overrated, this kind of comment is never new to counterparts. but they've stayed active for 13 years and every record is a solid step forward, one can totally dislike their music but the resilience of this band cannot be denied. Many times the departure of core players did not trip up the band.
edit:that's what I like about them apart from the music aspect. I also like Brendan Murphy's personality, his directness is gold.

Yeah agree Jay. I can't for the life of me get into Converge, but I'm not going to rate it low and start spamming threads lol. Just have better shit to do with my time... like listen and talk about albums/band that I actually do connect with.

A few songs in and it's just good ol' reliable Counterparts. Probably another solid 4.1-4.2 from me. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

@GreyShadow Yes, there are great similarities among their songs. This issue has been easily ignored by saying that is a problem of the listener. many of their songs are just hard to distinguish for fresh ears, which could indicate a lack of variety in their works.
