Looks like the metacritic score is finalized for this one. In comparison:
Opus Eponymous: None
Infestissumam: 67
Meliora: 78
Prequelle: 81
Impera: 84
Skeleta: 79

Album Rating: 4.0
I get that this score is probably a little out of date, but how tf are people ranking Infestissumam beneath Skeleta.
Blasphemy.

On the new one (which I haven't listened yet) I liked the singles, is it as bad as it seems?

The singles are easily the best thing about the new album, the rest of it is pretty forgettable.

Welp Meliora being the lowest is certified batshit fucking insane so I’ll go ahead and disregard that.
And I don’t really agree with the singles thing, Umbra is absolute fire and maybe my favorite on it, that or Lachryma.

Marks of the Evil One is some good shit too, I need more time with it, and certainly need to dive deeper into the lyrics.
I really hope they move away from this big 80’s arena rock sound they’ve been playing with since Prequelle. I’ve enjoyed all these records but the first three have pretty distinct styles and these last three all blend together a little too much. I mean shit, the best thing Ghost has done since Meliora is the 7 Inches of Satanic Panic ep. A whole record of jams like that would be killer.

Yeah I'd rather have a Satanic Panic style album, 100%.

I don't believe Ghost make forgetable tunes. I always give them a big shot.

Or maybe go even heavier and try to work some catchy hooks in there. Sort of a blend between Opus and their last three records. Imagine riffs that go as hard as Elizabeth but with a catchy ass chorus like Spillways or something.
I’m enjoying this record but it’s one of those things where I’m more excited to see where the band goes from here. Again, I do like the album a lot, but it feels like they’re treading water. So many of these songs would’ve fit snugly on Prequelle or Impera

Something funny I noticed is that if you take the release date of their albums and minus it by 40 years, the trajectory of their style somehow makes a bit more sense.
Opus Eponymous-1970
Infestissumam-1973
Meliora-1975
Prequelle-1978
Impera-1982
Skeleta-1985

That’s an interesting way of looking at it
I’m thinking a solid 4/5 for the new one. I still don’t love Peacefield but it’s grown on me a bit. As has Guiding Lights and Excelsis. So really for me they stuck the two worst songs on the album together with Cenotaph and Missilia Amori. Everything else ranges from pretty good to flat out some of the best shit they’ve ever recorded. Really probably their most uneven record but when it hits, it FUCKING hits.
6. Prequelle
5. Infest
4. Skeleta
3. Impera
2. Opus Eponymous
1. Meliora

I wish I liked this more. Have had zero impulse to come back to it. But I'll force myself to go through it a couple of more times to see if it ever clicks. I forever use Meliora as my base of comparison which is just self-inflicted nonsense but...ehh

Lachryma is just an all timer for these guys. Great video, catchy as fuck hook, love those spacey synths in the pre chorus, ripping solo, fuckin 10/10 song

I want to 5 this album so fucking bad. But Twenties might just be the worst song this band has ever made. Genuinely halts the album's momentum completely. What the actual fuck is this song dear christ it is awful, and the lyrics are like written by a 12 year old.
