i used to think that too but my recent revisit left me feeling theyre on the higher end of average, while a lot of supposed cult classics arent even on that level

Tbf outside of this album i havent jammed this band in probably 8 years. I guess my 3.0 reflects what you're saying; on the "positive" side of average. Which is a fair distinction, but still in the category of average :-)

put it this way theres a lot of bands that just feel like 3rd rate death ripoffs (mb with obituary style slower sections thrown in) these days to me. people salivate over them cuz they were around in 1990 and never got paid $$ like cc, but cc did try to come up with their own style that a lot of lesser bdm and tdm bands copied after.



go listen to the bleeding, not an amazing album but the guitar style there (1994) would later be adopted by bands like decapitated, post-nsv cryptopsy and countless others

I mean, I believe you that they are very influential, I dont doubt that. But their music does very little for me, if anything at all. Never has done much for me. I appreciate trying to carve out your own niche but that in itself will not inherently make your music good (subjectively speaking of course)

the bleeding was the last record I liked by then so in the 50 albums in between or whatever it was good to enjoy this band again. I was never massively into them but TOTM and The bleeding where regulars as a kid. Had a joint on the bus with Barnes and Webster on that bleeding tour as a young buck. Good times.

I can appreciate that. I respect their status in the dm community. Im not trying to pull fans away or dissuade people from jamming them...just stating that they've never done much for me

i feel just a tad more strongly about this topic because i used to shit on them (and granted i still think its kinda lame that this is the best selling dm band of all time and always has been). and now im like yeah a lot of bands dont really hold my attention anymore so with that in mind cc are really no worse than most. im mostly mad that i used to contribute to an attitude of "oh its good cuz its obscure", idk, i think its great for people to make whatever art they want to make but the reality is a lot of metal bands arent really that creative



so i say cc are alright. gallery of suicide and eaten back to life are prob their best albums for me.
