"Rowan, I track rated this on RYM, right now I put Pull as a 2/5, the last six albums there’s not a single other song I rate below 3.5/5. The debut I remember being average but I don’t think it had anything poor. "
Man's got data

I do see your point but I hope it grows on you Boney. loved that song on first listen and repeats have just convinced me more - it's structured like a parabola which can be frustrating but also very rewarding, the way it builds to the "maybe we'll talk it out inside a car" then washes back down to quiet is lovely
I also personally would rate it higher than a handful from the last two albums lol, as with everything here bar Dust tbh

"Dust Swirls" is a glorified interlude as far as I'm concerned

I'm not surprised in the slightest that people hate Not in Kansas, especially here, but it feels to me like the conclusion to all the Cohen/Nick Cave influence that was big on early National and sort of faded away over time so I enjoy it highly for that. also, some all time Berninger lines in there

Am I imagining things when I say that I remember TWFM being panned when it came out? People saying it was a boring retread of HV etc? Feels like only recently people have started calling it some of their best work. I agree though

First six are the top-tier cuts, the next three could fall either way and from there it's pretty forgettable, unfortunately.

@dust: i said similar in the trouble thread earlier today, you weren’t imagining the reception

I feel it got similar praise as this is. Albums fit quite well together too even ignoring the blatant call back
