I got this cd in the mail yesterday and an actually really small sticker. I actually didn't want to buy this initially because it is really sad. I also got a keychain that is nice. I am not a soccer aficionado so that didn't entice me to spend more money. The last Owen release I got a hat and a nice water bottle. I love these purchases.

Enough of my dumb shit how I live in the dark. The keychain is small too, but I like it. I may attach it to my keyring. I think the album is good, the only song I thought sucked on first listen was "Patron Saint of Pale." I might have just had a mind disconnect but I remember hearing that and I had to skip it after awhile.

So many songs are really sad. "Bad Moons" is amazing but wow. Especially that video. Anyhow. First impression I prefer the album I am posting in better. LP4 is still a good album. One of the interludes "The One with the Piano" was just nothing. I expected more because the "One with the Wurlitzer" was soo good. It just never builds up to anything and ends. I guess I'll just end this since, I think LP2 gets too much crap. I initially thought it didn't add much other than a good single or two, but it's very good.

New LP is gorgeous but just like every Mike Kinsella work the vocals hold it back from being much more than a 4

I enjoy them some times more than others, but he sort of always sounds like he's singing 40% through his nostrils. I love me some whiny vocals but I feel like it doesn't fit with this style of music.

agreed with that. mike is a really limited vocalist, the guitars are what makes the music. he usually fits the more indie folksy tunes though.

His vocals have become noticably less powerful

By his own admission he has never been the most powerful vocalist, I think the mixing of this and LP4 both understand this well. his vocals are less prominent in the mix and that not only adds to the haziness of the records but creates a stronger feeling of texture. I'd say seeing them live this weekend confirmed that too, the live mixing was excellent.

sure, hisvoice hasn't aged well, especially considering he isn't even 50 yet

It's concerning, given everything else we know about him (particularly to that GQ article). It gives both albums a distinct frailty.
