Pretty sure you could count the number of boomers who like djent on one hand.

Fat Lip slaps [2]

And speaking of boomers enjoying djent, there was an older couple (60's probably) standing next to me the last time I saw AAL (with Periphery and Car Bomb) and they were super into AAL. The dude even took a hit of a joint that was been passed around by people next to him. Then they left before Periphery's set.

I thought he was gonna narc on the kids smoking the joint or tell them to get rid of it, and he takes a puff instead. It was kind of funny.

The lesson is to not judge a book by its whitebread boomer cover.

Loved the singles, but I'm not feeling the rest so far, hope it grows.

So I was definitely not as hyped about the singles as most of Sput seemed to be and after my first full listen of Witness I honestly think it's a big step down from Applause. I feel like it leans into the dumber djent aspect of the band's sound. The drumming, which is a massive part of the band's appeal to me feels way less creative on Witness. The drumming feels so unique on Applause in that it contributes to the watery imagery of the album in a way that you wouldn't think drums are capable of doing. Nothing on Witness feels half as intelligent and evocative as Ruby Pools, where the erratic hi-hat really *feels* like the shimmering edges of gem stones. Witness has some decent catchy songs but it feels stripped of character. And songs like These Black Claws do not inspire confidence in what the band is aiming for. Really hope this grows on me.

I used the word 'feels' a lot.

Even the album art for Witness is empty of imagery. It's fine but pretty generic. Doesn't help me latch on to anything.

I like Inmazes the most. Applause felt a little sparse to me but I loved it all the same. I'm liking how they found a nice middle ground between their sounds on Witness.
