Ah, thank you. Now I see the point. But I actually really "dig" that part tbh

I get your point to guys...he tries to do that Buckley's theatrical interpretation. agree...still love pretty much all tracks on this though. From what I've seen live from them on youtube they're a little raw too. But they will grow. Cool band X)

His cleans worked so well on White Lighters completely because he never tries to pull off anything too flashy there. It feels a lot more real and emotional where as the points I mentioned seemed like it's thrown on for some type of added flair but it comes across cringy imo. It's a very little problem though but one that can get annoying at times especially when I listen to the songs where he tends to do that stuff the most.

I can understand that, guess he is hitting on a "weak spot" of yours. There are a few vocalist I really like but everyone has his/her few moments I just hate (which doesn't mean they are bad).

If you like White Lighters check out Space Heater from Greyhaven's debut. Dude has a lot of emotions in his voice.

I honestly like this more than anything from ETID.

I can never get through an entire ETID record, its great in small doses though. Unlike this, which is great throughout.

"I can never get through an entire ETID record"

believe me...its more than possible. But I always start by digging some tracks and then start to get into the whole thing. ETID is much more groundbreaking than this, and the brain needs to fit, adapt and learn. This is more immediately likable I can admit, but not exactly better...

I'm in the same camp as Evreaia and I'll try to explain why:

it's been noted that Greyhaven are "more immediately likeable", more accessible/melodic/etc., which is true, but I'd also give them credit for just being able to write such mean hooks that grab you like that. Empty Black is a remarkably concise and efficient album and some of us just like the simple sweetness.

ETID: they might be groundbreaking in the sense that they were one of the first to play a particular sound, but that in itself doesn't make them more enjoyable.

love both bands but the correlation at times is undeniable, thus the comparisons are being made.

yeah there is definitely a comparison to be made, but ETID has been at it forever. this is greyhaven’s second album and the first one had a completely different guitarist and drummer. guitarist definitely stands out on this record as well

This album is so good. I agree that there are a couple cringy moments but the vocals are super sick. He's clearly trying to emulate specific styles a couple times and it does come off as unnecessary because his vocals are so sick on their own it's not really necessary. I see the ETID comparisons but honestly this album mainly reminds me of early He Is Legend more than anything.

I think their style, and especially the songs on Cult America, make a lot more sense when you consider this band was spawned from the same soil as Knocked Loose. Like Knocked Loose's guitarist was in this band and left it to focus on KL, I'm not sure if he played on Cult America or not, but that album's status as being such a total breakdown fest makes more sense considering that.

The difference between the two albums is that the members they picked up are extremely talented and pull out some super nice riffs without ever overdoing it and losing their sense of focus.

Cult America is a borderline turd as far as I'm concerned. Glad they knocked it outta the park with this one though
