If I were to go on a driving rampage, there's only one album that would fittingly suit the occasion: The Dethalbum.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, you need to watch more cartoons in the middle of the night.
what the hell is wrong with melody? go away
there's more to music then melody, fag. and power metal only has melody.
Yeah, lots of happy melodies and clean, easy vocals on Blood Fire Death.
Bathory are still quite accessible.
And how exactly does one define a melody as cheap? I don't recall seeing a melody aisle at Target complete with "Clearance" signs.
Nickelback have cheap melodies. Cynic write legitimate melodies. See the difference now, asshole? Or should I spell it out for you again?

Were you born stupid, or did you suffer head trauma at a later age?

ohhh steerpike you're sooooooo funny.

power metal only has melody.

Listen to Nightfall in Middle Earth by Blind Guardian, A Flame to the Ground Beneath by Lost Horizon, Kings of Metal by Manowar, and Traveller by Slough Feg and get back to me when you have a clue.

Bathory are still quite accessible.

You are really desperate, aren't you?

And if accessibility is supposed to be a mark against me, then why are you defending Metallica? Contrary to what the band would like you to believe, they're actually almost as accessible as Skid Row and Cinderella.

Nickelback have cheap melodies. Cynic write legitimate melodies. See the difference now, asshole? Or should I spell it out for you again?

Ooh, little hot under the collar there, sparky?

You still haven't defined cheap versus legitimate. You're just making shit up to sound intelligent. And if you want to play that game, keeping this in mind: never try to bullshit a bullshitter.

Most lol-worthy thread I've read in a long time from page 30 onwards, but one thing, Steerpike:

I used to brag about being better than other people

Don't you still brag about being superior to about 99% of this site? Not saying its not true, of course.

And I had a little bit of respect for DrunkenViking when I saw he had written this, even though the opinions aren't really adequately backed-up. But then I saw his reviews for A7X, and I'm not one for bashing people for their taste in music but I really don't see how anyone who thinks scene metal is worthy of a 5 while MoP, without which (admittedly) scene metal would probably not exist, only gets a 1.5, should be allowed to have any opinion on this. I won't neg the review though. This Message Edited On 01.09.09

Steerpike, accessibility isn't a mark against you exactly, I'm just making the point that you only enjoy a narrow spectrum of music, and therefore you're opinions have to be considered in that light. And as for the cheap vs. legitimate melody argument, it's not really something that can be quantified, so I gave you examples to try to show you what I meant. And I heard all of those power metal songs that you listed, and they are all relatively one dimensional and trite.

And if you don't think that Bathory are accessible, then you're kidding yourself.

i used to but it wore off me big time and in retrospect isn't that amazing an album - and i know it had a big impact on metal and everything but for me personally it had little because when i first started listening to metal i disliked metallica. it was only after about a year of listening to metal i began to dig them but i quickly fell out of love :/

Yeah, I feel you. I loved Metallica when I first heard them, now...

Battery is still one of my all time favorite metal songs though.

Steerpike, accessibility isn't a mark against you exactly,

Even though you seem to hate everything that is accesible. The very fact that you actually thought Nickelback would be a good example of writing a melody for mainstream audiences is laughable at best.

I'm just making the point that you only enjoy a narrow spectrum of music,

Which is completely fucking wrong. Power metal is one of my favorite genres, but I listen to a wide variety of music. Delta blues, rap, horrorpunk, American balladiers, black metal, world music, pop punk, classic punk, Goth rock, doom metal... the list goes on. You're talking completely out of your ass. And for what? A guy who thinks Metallica are overrated?

it's not really something that can be quantified,

Then why open your mouth in the first place.

And I heard all of those power metal songs that you listed, and they are all relatively one dimensional and trite.

Now I know you're lying, because those weren't songs, those were albums, dipshit. Jesus...

And if you don't think that Bathory are accessible, then you're kidding yourself.

It seems to me that you're the one listening to a very narrow spectrum of music, because you have nothing to compare Bathory to that isn't more extreme metal.

BLIND GUARDIAN SUCK!!!!!!

As if it wasn't already established, this just proves that I don't have to apologize for my taste in music to you of all people. This Message Edited On 01.09.09

Whoever thinks Bathory is 'accessible' is an idiot. It's not called extreme metal for no reason.
What are you talking about? I just heard someone cover a Bathory song on American Idol.

Calling Bathory accessible to over 80% of the world is ridiculous

At the very least.

It's the same metalhead douchebags who think they'll seem hard or "elite" by referring to any metal band with a sense of melody or dynamics as "pop".

I'm saying the same people who call Bathory accessible are the same idiots you see on places (such as Blabbermouth.com) that refer to certain metal bands as "pop" just because they think it makes them sound elite or something.

I have a problem with typing responses on this site without including any sort of context for them...

Well, I figure that there is always one who thinks an album or band sucks like a hoover. For me, it's MCR or Fall Out Boy, they are both tied for which is "mostest suckier". However, everyone is entitled to their opinon, no matter how wrong they may be. I think that this review would have been better spent on something like St. Anger, but hey, that's just me.
