Whoah! her lyrics are so powerful but delivered so quietly. Nice to see them through a different lens. The line about “feeling sorry for myself/then I remembered someone’s kid is dead” stood out to me more here

Chorus almost works better in a punk setting

Otherwise it almost seems a little weird/wrong...

well the oberst/bridgers news just made my day

I keep wanting to defend boygenius by saying it wasn't a letdown and that our expectations were just too high, but I listened to it again yesterday and it is really average IMO. oh well.

I still like the Dacus and Baker songs on that EP better than their full lengths prolly lol. but yeah most of that boygenius can't even touch this album

Oberst and Bridgers are two of my absolute favorite musicians, so have extremely high hopes for that

Me & My Dog is my favourite song of 2018. Dacus' tracks are good, but Julien Baker's just sound like Julien Baker songs. Which is fine.

First Better Community song is great but the lyrics are weirdly pretty bad
Still incredibly hyped

So far these songs are pretty great instrumentally/songwriting-wise but boring melodically and lyrically

I actually thought her voice suffered most, I'm shocked how bland it sounds in the more trad-folk stuff

I spoke too soon I'm loving it, it's gonna be a hard 4 at the least

And I'm a huge fan of the sound, reminds me more of her roots (I grew up listening to a lot of singer-songwriter country/folk) so I'm in heaven rn

I got bored and turned it off, pleasant and inoffensive with some moments of ingenuity
Will give a full listen soon tho

that's a damn shame, there's some really neat twists in here sonically

I'm also reminded how unimmediate this album was for me, and that this could grow so much more with time

"Exception to the Rule" and "Big Black Heart" are fucking crazy

I loved this. Exception to the Rule is ironically the only track I thought was only okay, everything else was fantastic. I'm glad this is so lively, I really wanted more of that sound from Phoebe.
