with OTIP hitting 4.3 and this at a 4.1 and the band getting a ton of attention right now, i think this has officially become a sput band.

i have to disagree. a "sputnik band" is one that's disproportionately popular on the site vs. irl. for example bands like circle takes the square, converge, thrice, dredg, glassjaw, brand new... those are sputnik bands. none of them are (or ever were) really any "bigger" than the menzos currently are (with the possible exception of brand new, but it's not like they're filling arenas or anything) but all have albums w/ thousands of ratings on sputnik, whereas the menzos' most popular album only has 655.

basically this site in aggregate has an aversion toward punk rock and an affinity for post-hardcore, so i don't know if the menzingers will ever qualify for "sputnik band" status. and i'm perfectly okay with that.

debatable. their headlining shows aren't any more of a draw. less so if anything at the ones i've been to.

i mean if you go by ratings converge on this site is almost as popular as radiohead. you wouldn't argue that irl they're anywhere near as big, would you?

true. maybe because of that album they're not the best comparison. but they're still definitely way more popular here than they are in the real world.

note that i don't mean this as a dig. i like converge.

i love that all the bush-era political punk i used to get stoked on is suddenly relevant again.

probably the only positive i can think of re: having a fascist cheez-it for prez.

I'm not sure if those post-hardcore bands are truly Sputnik bands. Thrice, Brand New, and Converge are very popular within their respective genre groups, not just on Sputnik. The Republic of Wolves is a Sputnik band

nah thrice is definitely not as popular irl as they are here. not even remotely. beggars nearly broke the site.

didn't say it didn't. but like converge, they're radiohead-huge on sputnik. let me know when they're selling out arenas.
