"I would counter-argue that ALL good film knows when it's wasting its audience's time with useless garbage and ALL good film goes for subtlety rather than straight exposition for its first hour"

But... but it's a beautiful hour. Just amazing eye candy. So much so, that apart from a few slightly less gigantic Asian martial arts films, there is still nothing remotely as amazing-looking as 2001, almost 50 years and huge CGI developments later.

to think that kubrick, perhaps the biggest perfectionist in film history, was not aware of what he was doing with every single frame of his films, i mean ok

every single one of his movies kicks every other movie ever made in the ass in terms of attention to detail, only problem is some of them are boring af.

if youre one of these new age kids that need to be force fed bright lights and entertainment and things every two seconds of live such that you cant even shut yourself off momentarily and appreciate the minute subtle details of art

Making beautiful art sometimes means boring the fuck out of everybody. Nothing needs to be exciting all the time, I get it, subtelty goes a long way. But boy is BL boring as balls.

It's beautiful and all, but damn everyone on it is stiff as a plank and the "story" is fucking a joke.

As a satire, yes, the screenplay is outstanding. But pales cinematographically in comparison to all of his later films

started as a 3.5 for me, grew to a 4.5 and then fell back down to a 3.5. So I suppose it isn't a grower

As much as I would attempt to "defend" this album, personally my reasoning for liking it so much doesn't go further than "I just like it".

I can't understand how can anyone take this seriously. I mean, it's obviously a comedy album. It must be, it can't be this awful without being at least somewhat self conscious, right?

RIGHT?
