Sorry but I can't jump in the Feldmann hate pit with you all, he produced BVB's Wretched and Divine and Andy Biersack's solo album, I love the influence he brings into the production.

he produced the Used's debut so give the man props for that
but he also produced every Used album after that so he pretty much loses all his points

Honestly, Feldmann pretty much takes creative control of the band's sound when he's the producer, so your enjoyment of an album he's produced will almost entirely depend on whether or not you enjoy his style.
Personally, I've never been disappointed by Feldmann.

I think my enjoyment of his albums really depends on whether he drowns the vocals in unnecessary crap or not. For the Used he let Bert just do his thing and he sounded great, whereas on this Matt and Mark are both great singers and he still felt it necessary to polish the life out of their vocals for some reason

I can definitely agree with that; he actually drowned Andy's vocals pretty deeply in the mix on Wretched and Divine (but for that it actually worked because of his more gruff tone of voice), Matt and Mark's tones are far too clean to be given the same treatment. Honestly this album would have probably stayed a 4 for me if the vocals weren't as processed and the lyricism a bit more mature.

Those are my two major faults with it too and both things which Feldmann encouraged the band to do... although Sober and No Future would be awful songs no matter how raw the production is
really wish Hey, I'm Sorry had made the album instead, lovely tune

I do have one minor gripe with the instrumental mixing on this though, a lot of the catchier leads seem to be melded a bit too well with the rhythm. The great lead on "Los Angeles" should have had a lot more impact, but instead it's just... catchy.

The mixing in general is not good for me. The guitar has no bite to it, vocals are stifled, the drums are pushed too far back and it all sounds so mechanical and pasted together which is the exact opposite of how a summery, carefree album that they were going for should sound. Really hope they kick Feldy to the curb

I think the production duo of Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount would have been a much better fit for this album. (Mayday Parade, All Time Low, Jason Lancaster, Go Radio, Set It Off, We Are The In Crowd, etc)

Have heard none of those except like one Mayday song when I was a kid so I can't comment. They could have got Bill Stevenson who's done a good job on the recent Alk3 stuff, or just produced the damn thing themselves

Here's an example of Odom and Mount's production work - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lVm6pPFf8s
I haven't heard any of Bill Stevenson's work I don't think so I can't comment on that either.

sounds like your typical pop-punk production to me but certainly much better than this
have you heard any Alkaline Trio Snide? I'm sure you'd like Agony & Irony at the least
