I’ve been listening to this trilogy a lot lately. If you live in the UK, and in anyway follow environmental/countryside issues pertaining to systemic wildlife persecution, these albums hit especially hard. It’s one thing to have a coherent concept but the execution on this is flawless, from the engineering to the musicianship. As soon as I heard the warm bass kick in during the extended intro to the opening track, I knew this would be something special.

Where we lay,
we will build.
Though we may falter,
we will build.

Word. This is an all-timer but the whole trilogy is wonderfully executed for a number of reasons.

For some reason my eyes diverted to this part (and I thought you were a bot for a second, good thing you have an av)... 'If you live in the UK, and in anyway follow environmental/countryside issues pertaining to systemic wildlife persecution...'

on reflection that would've been a more advanced bot than we usually see around here

The year was 2021 - I was in a bad way. Life hadn't been so kind to ol' Phero this year. Each day he yearned for more.

I was working at a bar in Brighton. A cocktail bar - I remember it well. Christ, he was unhappy but by god the boy could make a mean pineapple daquiri. So nice, in fact, that he was drinking them too bloody often. Working hungover is hard when you work around drink.

That day he woke up, as he often did (in the morning, as it often was). He had work. 9am. Bleh. Not only did he have to trudge along the 40 minute walk to a cocktail bar at 9 in the morning but in Brighton during this very day was the peak of the bin strikes.

"what are the bin strikes", they asked.

I'll oblige.

The bin strikes were where the bin men and women of Brighton unionised and refused to collect anyones rubbish until they were paid their fair share of the shake. Fuck yeah! Support the strikers! It did, however, stink. Bins were piled up across the city like some great dystopian future of litter castles and cute pixar robots. This did not help the hangover.

It was a strangely beautiful sight. Not often are strikes so pungent.

It also meant that there was a fuck ton of bins that did not fit in the city's larger bins (i hope this makes sense) and so bins and rubbish and throw-aways were thrown on the floor, not in support of the strikes but because ew who wants that in their house.

Anyway about 10 minutes into my walk to work I look towards a bin I had used in the past - once empty and beautiful, and now full of shit. On the floor however...

...

...

was a pile! of fucking mint edition vinyl lmao - super rare mint edition vinyl from like oldschool thrash bands and low key british hardcore acts. genuinely mint fuckin edition mostly. there was about 40 of them just piled up neatly on the side of the road next to the bin - quite carefully placed, actually.

I popped into the local cinema in my half hungover half asleep what the fuck is going on state and i asked for the biggest bin bag they had (maybe they thought i was taking the piss) and I collected the most fresh looking of the 40 as well as the ones whose album art looked fuckin dope (efrafa) and the ones i recognised. Took them to work. Took them home. Still have em'

They're all worth quite a bit lol but I wanna keep them for the memories and plus i love my lil bin collection.

I do wonder who put them there though - a disgruntled ex perhaps. Or maybe someone was moving houses and placed the records next to the bin as a reminder to pick them up.

I wonder what happened to the rest of the vinyl left behind. Perhaps they litter a landfill somewhere, a reminder of the great Brighton bin strikes of 2021.

I no longer make cocktails.

Damn that story was wild. I mean most of it was a pointless insight into the life of Phero (hehe), but admittedly vaguely charming nonetheless - and then the twist at the end, which we knew ended in mint FoE vinyl, was still shocking all the same
