Nop you're right coldheaven. Not trying to, I just think Adrenaline is original and groundbreaking in its own way. Diamond Eyes I can agree it was safe, but needed, cause STW was a bummer for fans at the time.

Yeah I think late deftones have become more postmetal influenced, maybe to run away a bit from their numetal stigma, they ve become a little more experimental, and it was a good thing imo. Please correct me if you think its not "postmetal" the genre i should be speaking about.

And see, I could never slap that Nu-Metal label on Deftones. When Adrenaline came out, the first Korn album was already out and those two bands had their own sound albeit similar since they were both from southern California and would often play shows together. That sound was both of theirs and they took it in separate directions, while Korn dabbled in hip-hop inspiration, Deftones dabbled in some gaze-y, experimental inspiration. To me, Nu-Metal is shit like Disturbed, Godsmack, Limp Bizkit, Spineshank, Snot, etc etc. Basically all the bands that rode the coattails of what Korn and Deftones did, but watered the fuck out of it and made it radio butt rock.

@coldheaven totally agree. That's why I mentioned it as a "numetal stigma" and prob was not even an issue on their path

just what is it that you mean by post-metal. the only post-metal band at the time was literally Neurosis.

Ok call it post-rock/ experimental/ shoegazy then. I said it as a reference vibe, prob not the most accurate, but not of the genre itself. Just said postmetal cause they are a metal band I guess, and started concerning more about some "post" aspects.
