No idea, I was thinking that myself, but most people usually say to listen to everything from Night onwards. Their old stuff is more indie rock-oriented as far as I've heard. None of their post-Night albums were haunting as much as Demon - they are great for sure but that beautiful creepiness is rarely there. Is there any other band that managed to pull off a similarly creepy concept album in the prog rock genre?

Nothing really sounds like this that I've heard. Porcupine Tree's 2000s albums and Steven Wilson's first few albums are all I can think of that might have a similar vibe you're looking for.

Eh, I'm not a fan of Steven Wilson, I like his music but his voice annoys me a bit. Might listen to some of his stuff anyway.

I was gonna say Kayo Dot, but you've already heard all their stuff from looking at your ratings.

Yeah, I'm quite new to the genre, but I've managed to listen to a lot of slower, atmospheric rock albums. I'm def not some sophisticated critic, however I really enjoy finding more interesting music like this. Kayo Dot just sounds a bit too much post metal for my taste, even the last few albums, although I can't deny their quality. But hey, thanks for the reccomendations anyway!

The piano sounds pristine on this. This has a lot of great elements, but is pretty tame overall

Honestly it feels very temperate and pretty much safe territory for these guys. Its a good album, just inoffensive that's all. Between a 3 and 3.5

Yeah at it's worst it's inoffensive and large portions of Death Room suffer from that but I definitely think its fantastical musical storytelling is enough to carry it

Say it ain't so! I like The Dear Hunter (pretty casually), but this album (and band) strikes me as quite different.

Dear Hunter is too swallowed in overproduced vocal harmonies and unnecessary strings to sound this good

Sometimes you just need to hear things at the right time, but this made me want to run over my own feet while mowing the lawn.

Maybe point me to a better introduction to the band.
