"i am HYPE for whatever follows white bat because it put me onto this band and it's become an all-time favorite at this rate."
I'm having such a hard time imagining anything other than this album being the one that puts someone onto this band.

I would have said the same for any of their other albums...but something about White Bat changed things for them. You can see it on their Spotify: Their most listened-to album is 'I Am Hollywood', released 18 years ago; 'White Bat', their latest, #2. Their most played song is "The Seduction," and #2 is "White Bat." Also, He Is Legend is the band I've seen live more than any other, and I was surprised to see that the shows in support of 'White Bat' had quite a few more young people than I was used to seeing in the crowd.
I don't know what 'White Bat' did that their other albums post-'Suck Out The Poison' did not, but it definitely did its job bringing in new fans.

i couldn't really tell you, White Bat just happened to be their latest record and i checked it on a whim, expecting a solid possibly off-kilter metal record and got what has become one of my favorite alt-metal listens of the last few years. most of the songs on this thing just riff ahrd and im a sucker for the loose conceptual throughline running through most of the album. it's a fun listen, and i hope the next album is able to bring more tunes on par with "Boogiewoman"
also uh, does anyone have any other "Southern Metal" bands they'd recommend? aside from Every Time I Die i guess.

You want something straight-forward, can't go wrong with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.
You want something heavier that is southern tinged, Norma Jean have been on one of the best late-career streaks I've ever heard, with their last four albums being bangers, and about to release a new one this year with promising singles already out.

I absolutely love The Showdown's first album and I feel like I'm the only one. Wish they'd re-record/remaster it as the production is kinda meh. Vocalist also improved a lot going forward.
