Yeah like people are saying, most of these comments are people talking about how shitty it is, but the rating is still pretty high. I don't really know what to think, some of it is hype maybe, but albums like this usually don't get much hype on sput. The band has a big fanbase so there's probably a solid amount of voters who joined just to 5 it or whatev (and there is a substantial amount of 5s).
But really, I liked fake history a lot, and was kind of excited to hear the follow-up. But damn this is just a terrible album. I was expecting something pretty solid especially after the 3 year gap. They could've used a lot of that time to come up with something brilliant, but no, this still sounds completely rushed despite how much time they had to make it.

It's been said but I really think the endless touring with all of those horrible bands really drove
them the wrong way
I used to love Fake History but it grew off me really fast. I love their energy still though so I was
hoping they'd expand on all of those things, instead we get this piece of shit

i really and truly believe that we will never get anything close to Fake History again from this band. they're on fucking warped tour and will forever be popular simply because they are letlive. this is their new standard of greatness and they know it
it's just so disappointing

Wow you guys are being silly. This isn't a bad album and letlive aren't a bad band. We just don't like this album. Stop trying to rationalize everything with blame.

"there are no fans
90% of this thread is people complaining about how much this sucks
and chuckles living up to his name"
Powerful arguments right there.
I love how the general consensus so far has been "this band/album sucks, this band is a piece of shit" with nothing to back those statements up.
Lol.

If you look between the furrows of "this sucks", there are plenty of coherent and valid points as to why this isn't very good. Observer bias however compels you to lump them in with the cry babies.
Here are some of mine.
1. The production somehow manages to sound simultaneously over polished and shitty, the constant autotune really undermines Jason's voice as a force of its own
2. Rather than use their influences and musical talent to craft something new, they have just released another album that sounds like a bunch of other bands with the new addition of RATM aping on top of the Glassjaw worship.
3. The latin music inspired sections all sound like cast-offs from the writing session of Gold by Glassjaw.
4. There are moments of songwriting that are so forced that it is almost painful: The moment where the string section comes in at the end of a song drew a genuine laugh from me.
5. Just because it is different, doesn't mean it is a change for the better. Sometimes different is just different but equal. This is different but bad.
6. The songs seem to have been written with an eye on "breaking through" rather than creating a genuinely good piece of music that would stand up on its own merits. It feels absurd to suggest that something this sugary and overtly marketable can be the product of a sincere songwriting process
7. For all the screaming, swearing, distortion and frenetic pacing of the album, it feels sterile, safe and ultimately charmless.
This isn't an album, it's a happy meal.

DanielNightLewis and everyone else spouting the same hate should go do something more productive.
We get it. You don't like the album. Please discuss why you dislike it like a rational human being. I've read 31 pages of people expressing themselves like utter tools.
Most of what DanielNightLewis posted was extremely subjective. So, stop shoving your opinions down our throats. Believe it or not, your feelings towards this album are not fact.

Everywhere else is selling this as one of the greatest post-hardcore releases in recent memory, come to Sputnik and it's horrible. Album is decent and seems like a bit of a grower imo, hopefully the vinyl master is better or all the mp3's around are just low quality rips.

Lol, since when did people have to start justifying their opinion of an album? You can
express your opinion without posting a "rational, productive" thesis to make it worthy or whatever.

His lyrics have always been totally vacuous and generally pretty fun simultaneously, and I don't think
they necessarily need to be more than that.
|
| |
He can write good lyrics, his lyrics in Day 54 were great, but he has admitted that when writing
lyrics he thinks about the rhythm of the music and how good it sounds on screams/singing rather than
saying something cohesive, so most of the time they don't make any sense.
The reason they were good in Day 54 was because that was a vocal-based song, so he could do what he
wanted. He generally seems to get his way here, so he has managed to make it better, though they're
still generally not that good.
But a lot of his one liners are good.
