I can't. This just isn't on the same level as USAD.

Fair enough. For me it's the other way around - as absolutely undeniably brilliant as USAD is, I feel as though the fact that they somehow managed to step up their game here & develop their sound from what was such a truly outstanding debut is really quite an impressive feat.
I just find that they've refined their sound here exceptionally well, esecially instrumentally, & that's really one of the vital defining factors along with the awesome energy the performances seem to exude. I might go as far as to say that USAD is more consistent overall - but that WYDS has stronger highlights & moments. If you're anything like myself, then I believe the ranking of your favourite songs from each dictates which album is inevitably superior from your perspective.
I guess in an ideal world though, USAD would be a 5 & this would be between that & a 5.5

i like things i can't change, empty space and the glass, but the rest of the album is just really boring and forgettable. and small talk intro has the worst riff ever

Your crazy man, every song is great. Those songs are the most immediately catchy but if you keep listening you will see that the musicianship is great on every song. Like for instance, while the chorus of "Framework" doesn't have that initial catchy hook like other songs, the chorus grew on me so hard and the instrumentals at the end of the song are so awesome and give the album an epic close.

i really want to like this band, and each time i put it on it starts great with things i can't change and i think "this band is actually better than i thought" but then it goes downhill. the lyrics are super cliché and pseudo-meaningful ("all i really want is to stay right here right now") and the lack of intros (stifled/right here) disturbs me.
i also dislike the overall slowness and heavyness of the songs, reminiscent of modern hardcore. pop punk should be fast and fun and not whiny and heavy. furthermore, the singer sucks. he uses this shitty early-2000's shouty emo vocal style and can't do more than 3 different notes.

frunsi, while maybe your points are valid in your own mind, I can assure you that most of what you're saying is outright false.
Of course, it's totally fine that it's not for you.

it's pretty hit or miss. some songs are catchy and work well despite the overall sound of the band which i'm not too much into, others seem just like the band thought "we have a few good songs already, and we're running out of ideas, but we need to write some more songs for our upcoming full album! let's just make them sound as similar as possible to the other ones because those are good!" ya know? they seem uninspired to me.
kind of like the second half of green day's dookie. the first half is amazing, the rest just feels like the band trying to emulate the sound of the other songs but somehow failing at it. and that's where personal preference hits.
i can easily listen to a really good song from a band/genre i'm not particularly into, like empty space or the glass on this album. but the rest isn't good enough for me to overlook the things i don't like about the band.
i'm sure that if you're a fan of this modern pop punk stuff aka crewneckcore/tr00 pop punk you're gonna love this album. like i really enjoyed last year's NOFX album because i dig the overall sound of said band, so i don't mind that objectively speaking the songs on that album are pretty mediocre.
